Connie Lynn Nimmerichter

Connie Lynn Nimmerichter, age 67, of Middletown, DE, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 after a decade long courageous battle with breast cancer. Through her cancer journey, she taught those around her what it looks like to live bravely and always with joy and a smile. She was known for her trademark spunk, even until the end. Connie will forever be a bright, guiding light to her family and loved ones.
At the Helen F. Graham Cancer Center in Newark, Delaware, Connie was famous, known as the walking miracle. About that fame, Connie would say that despite that being a place you do not want to be famous in, that she met some of the most incredible people through her cancer journey. Everyone from the door, to the research center at Helen Graham, knew Connie and her story because of the joy and positivity she brought others. When diagnosed with Triple Negative Breast Cancer, Connie was only given 2 years to live. She thrived for a decade past her diagnosis, defying the odds. She battled through 13 brain tumors, along with breast cancer. Medically, she should not have been walking and talking, living the best life she could for those additional 8 years. She participated in numerous clinical trials, donated her tumors to Triple Negative Research, signed up for tests, and did it all with hope in her heart for a cure not only for her, but many others. When she found out that she was at the end of her journey, her doctor cried with her and her family, saying that Connie did everything she asked, never complained one time, and always had an infectious positive attitude through any adversity.
Born in Pottstown, PA on January 28, 1957, she was the daughter of the late William R. and Mabel H. (Weller) Moyer. On March 1, 1980, Connie married Harvey Nimmerichter at St. Gabriel's Roman Catholic Church in Pottstown, PA. Together, they moved to Middletown, DE where Connie worked for the Town of Middletown as a clerk in the building and inspection permit department for 20 years.
Connie was the quintessential sports mom and creator of many magical moments for her family and especially her three children: Samantha, Matthew, and Jessica. She devoted countless hours supporting her children with their education, providing advice on personal situations, and through their countless hobbies. Connie never missed a soccer game, track meet, or lacrosse game for her children. She was a devoted sports mom and fan. She was always available to discuss and breakdown the plays from any recent game of any Philadelphia professional sports team, but she carried a special appreciation for the Eagles (go birds).
Connie was always willing to lend an ear to any family member or friend to provide advice or discuss a problem. She had an unwavering sense of right and wrong and was never afraid to tell, even her children, when they needed direction. She was a straightforward person with a huge heart. In her spare time, Connie loved using her keen eye to find what may have seemed like garbage at an antique shop and refurbish any item to something of much greater value. Connie also enjoyed arts and crafts, crocheting, sewing, and scrapbooking.
Connie was well known by family and friends for her skilled cooking and always being over-prepared with too much food for guests. She learned to cook at a very young age from her mother and grandmother, inspired by their Pennsylvania Dutch heritage. Among her favorite recipes included pumpkin roll, lasagna, and beef stroganoff. She was famous for her unique ability to shove 6 quarts of leftover food into a 5-quart Tupperware container. Connie was also a lover of animals and plants. She served as a scout leader for the Boy and Girl Scouts.
Most of all, family came first for Connie. Connie is survived by her loving husband, Harvey Nimmerichter; children, Samantha J. Nimmerichter of Bear, DE, Matthew C. Nimmerichter (Nora) of Exton, PA, and Jessica M. McIntire (Shaun) of Colorado Springs, CO; and grandchild, Declan P. Nimmerichter. Connie relished in any opportunity to spoil her loved ones and especially loved doting on her grandson.
A time of sharing and celebration of life will be held from 12 pm until 4 pm on Sunday, March 17, 2024, at the Chesapeake Inn Ballroom, 605 2nd Street, Chesapeake City, MD.
