Constance L. Butcher, of
Wilmington, Delaware, was born in
Lawrenceville, Virginia, and passed away peacefully on December 12, 2025.
Constance attended James Solomon Russell High School in
Lawrenceville, VA, and later worked as a Radiation X-ray Clerk at Christiana Care, Wilmington Hospital, where she dedicated many years of service until her retirement in 2006.
On August 7, 1965, she married Julius Butcher, beginning a lifelong partnership filled with love and devotion.
Constance was a woman of many joys, she loved to cook, read, complete crossword puzzles, and spend time with her family. She had a gift for conversation and connection, often reaching out to neighbors, strangers, and loved ones alike. For 54 years, she was a cherished presence on 26th Street, faithfully serving as the neighborhood watch and ensuring that everyone felt cared for and safe.
She was known for her kindness, relational spirit, and gentle soul. To be in her presence was to feel truly valued and embraced. Her neighbors, friends, and family will deeply miss her warmth and compassion.
Constance was preceded in death by her parents, George C. and Olive V. Reavis, her sister Rubie Goode, and her brothers Carlysle Monroe Reavis, James Milton Reavis, Harold Linwood Reavis, and Wilbur Leon Reavis.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband Julius, her daughters Shelby Rayfield and Sharon Hunt (James); six grandchildren, Ariel Butcher, Khalil Rayfield (Erica), Joshua Pegram, Natasha Rayfield, Lamont Pinder, and Peyton Pinder; and ten great-grandchildren, Darius Butcher, Aniyah Warren, Azoria Pegram, Amina Rivera, Kyrie Butcher, Audrey Rayfield, Joel Rivera, Anthony Rivera, Charlotte Rayfield, and Anissa Rivera; and her three sisters, Thelma Adams, Doris Virginia Nicholson, and Alma Delores Reavis. She is also remembered with love by a host of other family members and friends.
Her legacy of love, care, and community will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
