Constance Edgar Davis, born on February 5, 1934, and a longtime resident of Cape Cod, passed away on March 16, 2024. Connie Davis was an integral part of the Harwichport community for almost 60 years. At around 80 years old, she created a remarkable series of placemats, each replicating one of the various business cards she had collected over the years, showcasing her diverse and profoundly creative life.
Connie was not only the founder but also the Director of Edgars Nursery School, where she dedicated herself to teaching and nurturing hundreds of children from 1966 until the mid-80s. Edgar's Nursery School stood as her most significant contribution. Connie's love for the children in her school was evident in her efforts to teach them not only academic skills but also artistic pursuits like singing, painting, and dancing. She would often spend time with them, imparting practical skills like tying shoes and crafting clay animals. Her musical talents added to the vibrant atmosphere, as she played the piano for the children, encouraging them to sing and engage in creative games.
Connie's creative touch extended beyond the classroom, influencing everything from her beautiful home and evolving gardens to her homemade Christmas cards and T-shirt designs. Summers were filled with running T-shirt stores in Harwich, Dennis, Chatham, and Orleans, showcasing her entrepreneurial spirit. Notably, she ventured into the frozen yogurt business at Cape Cod Mall during a time when yogurt was still considered a niche health food. Additionally, Connie was known for selling Christmas trees and offering swimming lessons, reflecting her diverse interests and talents.
In the real estate community, Connie Davis will be remembered as an enthusiastic advocate for Cape Cod houses and the local real estate market. Despite being a single mother, Connie managed to balance her busy work life with her children's extracurricular activities. Her children were actively involved in the Harwich Suzuki violin program, Barry Edson ballet studio, various sports, and ice hockey. They were also part of the local sailing community, engaging with the Wychmere Harbor club and Stonehorse yacht club.
Connie's infectious energy and love for life were evident in her athleticism, as she excelled in golf and embraced yoga from a young age. Even in her 70s, she continued to inspire others by becoming a yoga instructor, a practice she had embraced since the early 60s. Before her marriage, Connie pursued studies at Parsons School of Design in New York and the New York School of Interior Design, where she worked for renowned interior designers.
Constance Edgar Davis leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and resilience, touching the lives of her children Leta, Mark, Michael and Helen Davis, grandchildren Alexander and Christian Dupree, Ashley Davis-Miller, Haley, Teddy and Bebe Davis, Chip and Kitty Evangelista and great-grandchild Elika Miller, as well as all those who had the privilege of knowing her. May she rest in peace.
A memorial to celebrate Connie's life will take place later this spring in Harwich Port, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Pug Rescue of New England at http://rescue-ofnewengland.org/

I was one of her students at Edgars and remember how fun she made it. In my late 30s, I became a Realtor and worked with her at Commonwealth where she helped mentor me and she was always kind, patient and very helpful to me and also the clients I saw her work with. She had a full life and spoke proudly about her children and grandchildren, who she adored. May she rest in peace knowing she had a life well lived!
