Ermides, Constantine "Gus" James
ALBANY - Constantine James Ermides, known to many as Gus, was born on August 29, 1937, and passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born to the late James and Olga Ermides of Greece, Gus was the beloved brother of Harry, Savas, and Mary Ermides. He was also a proud U.S. Veteran, having served in the U.S. Navy for eight years.
Gus was married to the late Barbara Giftos Ermides for over 50 years, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, family, and faith. A devoted member of Saint Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, he served as its president, and was deeply committed to his heritage, and also deeply revered by his community.
Gus had a long and successful career in business. He served as Vice President of Knickerbocker Hertz Rent-A-Car, and before his retirement, he worked as an accountant for Computer Sciences.
For several years, Gus and Barbara owned and operated a small convenience and newspaper store called Westmere News, which became a beloved neighborhood fixture.
He is survived by his three sons, Dean Ermides, of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Peter Ermides, of New York City, and Christopher Ermides, of Glens Falls, N.Y.; with his wife, Meaghan; and their son, Teddy; his brother, Harry Ermides; his beloved cousin, Savas; and many nieces and nephews, who affectionately referred to him as "Uncle Goose."
Gus was an avid golfer and loved spending time with his golf league friends, both at Frenches Hollow and, most recently, Western Turnpike Golf Course. He often spent his winters at his home in Cocoa Beach, Fla., where he said goodbye to, and will be missed by many friends. His warmth, humor, and generosity touched everyone who knew him.
