Cora Skipper Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reeder-Davis Funeral Home- Hughes Springs on Dec. 14, 2025.
Cora Lee Skipper, 97, of Hughes Springs, Texas, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2025, resting in the love of her family. She was born on November 21, 1928, in Linden, Texas, to Oscar Bonner and Mabel Clair Adams.

Cora Lee devoted her working life to serving her community. She retired as a U.S. Postal Service rural mail carrier and also retired from Hughes Springs Independent School District as a bus driver. As a faithful member of Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church from 1966, she sang in the choir, served as Sunday School secretary, and was a member of Women of Worship from its inception. As a high soprano, Cora Lee loved singing and listening to traditional hymns and Christmas carols.

In her moments of leisure, Cora Lee enjoyed playing cards, dominos, with Forty-Two being her game of choice. It was almost impossible to defeat her in dominos or any card game. When card partners were unavailable, Hallmark Christmas movies, a variety of game shows, and vintage westerns were her preferred entertainment. Cora Lee also loved creating quilt tops using thread and paint, which were made into heirlooms gifted to her family.

Cora Lee manifested strength in every aspect of her life. As a Proverbs 31 woman, she orchestrated a well-lived life in her roles as wife, mother, neighbor, employee, and friend. She was a loving yet firm woman who believed in always doing what was right. Cora Lee's quiet, yet unbound generosity sought only to help others without expectation. And modeled her everyday life after her favorite Bible verse from Galatians 6:9, "Let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not."

She was preceded in death by her husband, James B. Skipper, her parents, her siblings, and son-in-law, Wes Golden. Cora Lee often spoke of the grand reunion she would experience with her loved ones in heaven upon her arrival.

Cora Lee is survived by her beloved children and their spouses: Mike and Sandy Skipper, Mack and Dr. Connie Skipper, Thomas and Carolyn Skipper, and Lee Ann Golden. The joy of grandchildren delighted Cora Lee's heart. Her legacy will continue through her grandchildren: Darian Skipper, Kristi Gilmore, Scott Skipper, Genie Elizabeth Shaw, Caleb Skipper, Daniel Skipper, Nikki Taylor, Cody Skipper, Taft Golden, Tricia Campbell, Ken Campbell, and Jesse Campbell. She was further blessed with 33 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. We are also blessed to have Reverend Larry and Dorothy Neeley as honorary members of the family.

In reflection of Cora Lee's final days, the family expresses heartfelt thanks to the staff of Lighthouse Day Care whose daily kindness of lunch deliveries brought nourishment and companionship. The generosity and care that was provided is recognized and deeply appreciated.

Furthermore, the family extends gratitude to Capstone Healthcare and Chambers Hospice for the meticulous care to our mother and exceptional support. The diligence of the staff was personal and preeminent; for this polished professionalism, the family is truly thankful.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests your consideration of a donation to Women of Worship (WOW) at Hughes Springs Missionary Baptist Church. Cora Lee held the mission of WOW close to her heart. Donations will go forth to honor her dedication and ensure her passion lives on within this ministry.

Women of Worship may be contacted at: WOW, PO Box 277, Hughes Springs, Texas 75656. Phone: 903-639-3235.
