It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Cordelia Burton, who left us peacefully on July 7, 2025, in her beloved Lewisburg, TN, at the age of 87. Born on May 25, 1938, in Sassafras, KY, Cordelia lived a vibrant life that touched the hearts of many.
Cordelia was a proud retired nurse's aide at Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. She dedicated her life to caring for others, a testament to her big heart and compassionate spirit. A true spitfire, she was tough as nails and full of life, never shying away from a challenge. Cordelia had a passion for crocheting and nurturing her beautiful flowers and plants, which brightened her home and the lives of those around her.
Family was everything to Cordelia. She is survived by her sons Wilson Burton (Patricia) of Columbia, TN and Ronnie Burton of Lewisburg, TN; daughters Annette Fenech (Joe) of Lewisburg, TN and Cathy Lush (Alan) of Clifton Forge, VA; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. Her children and grandchildren were her world, and she cherished each moment spent with them, supporting and uplifting them in all their endeavors. She is preceded in death by her parents, Shade and Surilda Smith and her husband, Hubert Burton. Cordelia and Hubert were married on March 4, 1955. She always loved to help her husband with anything he was working on; she was always there to lend a hand and share her wisdom. She is also preceded in death by eight brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Cordelia will be held at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 10:00 AM. Visitation will be at Bills-McGaugh & Hamilton Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 8, 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and will continue on Wednesday, July 9, 2025 at 9:00 AM until the time of the service.
As we say goodbye to this remarkable woman, let’s remember her spirited nature and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and unwavering strength. Cordelia Burton will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
