Connie came to the offices of Comstow Information Services where we were developing a BiblioTech, a software system for corporate and government libraries in the mid-1980s. She had previous experience working in libraries and working with early automated library cataloging systems. Many of our clients had card catalogs that needed to be converted to digital data. Much of this information had to be hand-entered because it was proprietary data describing clients' internal records. We were delighted to find someone who could adapt to a new and innovative product that operated on systems from Digital Equipment Corporation. Connie learned quickly but more importantly she grew with the company, and became a steady, reliable and calm presence in an atmosphere that was sometimes very chaotic. It was a struggling startup but she rolled with the punches, was respected by employees, adapted to client demands and always presented a warm professional presence when unpredictable situations arose. For a dozen years Connie helped us survive in a very tough market, left when husband Bob became very ill, but later returned as we wrapped up 20 years with the sale of the product to a competitor. I always looked forward to lunches later, after she retired and I moved on to consulting. We had been a work family and former employees always wanted to know how Connie was doing - horseback riding no less. I have missed not hearing from her in recent years and was sad to learn of her death. She had a terrific family; her children are a proud legacy of how they were loved and raised by Bob and Connie.
