Cornelia "Connie" A. (Murphy) Davidson, a resident of Concord, Mass. for 55 years and most recently of Westborough, died on December 9, 2023. She was 91.
Raised in Brighton, Connie was the only child of Peter P. and Annie Murphy, both of whom immigrated to the U.S. from Ireland in the early 1900s. As a youth, Connie enjoyed summers in New Hampshire, where she discovered a love of horseback riding, an activity she returned to in her seventies.
She graduated from Our Lady of the Presentation Academy in 1950 and from Regis College in 1954 with a BA in history. She was active in the Regis alumnae association and served as class secretary from 1989 to 1994. She maintained many lifelong friendships from her school days.
Connie worked as a reference librarian at Cambridge Public Library from 1954 to 1962. After raising her family, she returned to library sciences, helping convert card catalogs for Maxwell Library Systems and Comstow Information Services from 1984 until her retirement in 1996.
Connie was an active member of Holy Family Parish in Concord, where she served on the Social Action and Justice Commission. She was also an avid reader, engaging conversationalist, and sports enthusiast. As such, she brought an informed perspective to family discussions and friendly debates, as well as a competitive spirit to any and all family backyard games.
Connie is predeceased by her husband of 35 years, Robert W. Davidson. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, Anne M. and Andrew Duffy of Shrewsbury; Robert P. and Janet Davidson of Scituate; Mark W. and Katherine Lewis Davidson of Lexington; and nine grandchildren, Erin, Neal, and Liam Duffy; Caitlin, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Meaghan Davidson; and Peter and Victoria Davidson.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours at Dee Funeral Home on Sunday, December 17th from 2 to 4 pm. Connie's Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, December 18th at 10 am in St. Bernard's Church at Holy Family Parish, 12 Monument Square, Concord Center. Connie came to the offices of Comstow Information Services where we were developing a BiblioTech, a software system for corporate and government libraries in the mid-1980s. She had previous experience working in libraries and working with early automated library cataloging systems. Many of our clients had card catalogs that needed to be converted to digital data. Much of this information had to be hand-entered because it was proprietary data describing clients' internal records. We were delighted to find someone who could adapt to a new and innovative product that operated on systems from Digital Equipment Corporation. Connie learned quickly but more importantly she grew with the company, and became a steady, reliable and calm presence in an atmosphere that was sometimes very chaotic. It was a struggling startup but she rolled with the punches, was respected by employees, adapted to client demands and always presented a warm professional presence when unpredictable situations arose. For a dozen years Connie helped us survive in a very tough market, left when husband Bob became very ill, but later returned as we wrapped up 20 years with the sale of the product to a competitor. I always looked forward to lunches later, after she retired and I moved on to consulting. We had been a work family and former employees always wanted to know how Connie was doing - horseback riding no less. I have missed not hearing from her in recent years and was sad to learn of her death. She had a terrific family; her children are a proud legacy of how they were loved and raised by Bob and Connie.
