Cornelia Murray

Cornelia Tootle Murray, 88, of Morehead City, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at Carteret Health Care of Morehead City.

A lifelong member of St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church in Morehead City, Cornelia held the distinction of being the church's oldest member. She served faithfully as a Deaconess and as the Church Secretary, dedicating her time and talents to her faith community.

Cornelia worked at the shirt factories in both Morehead City and Newport before transitioning to a role as a cook in the Carteret Health Care cafeteria, where she worked for over 15 years. Her dedication and hard work were evident in every position she held throughout her life.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at St. Stephen A.M.E. Zion Church of Morehead City. Burial will follow at Gethsemane Memorial Park. A visitation will be held from 12:00 to 1:00 on Sunday at the Church.

She is survived by her three sons, Allen Murray III and wife, Delores of Lithonia, GA; Steven Michael Murray and wife, Kathy of Newport; Bruce Eric Murray and wife, Miranda of Morehead City; five grandchildren: Steven Michael Murray Jr, Allen Durand Murray, Jessica Murray Desimone, Aneila Delisa Murray, and Daphne Raquel Murray; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Ethel Hill of Morehead City.

She was preceded in death by her parents Randolph and Julia Tootle; husband, Allen Murray Jr., brother, Randolph Tootle Jr.; sister, Doris Fulford; brother, Richard Tootle; brother, William Tootle; brother, Fred Tootle; brother, Gregory Tootle; brother, Clarence Monroe.
