Carl Langeberg, 94 years old of Sebastopol, CA passed away peacefully at his beautiful, self designed and built home in the presence of his family.
Carl was born and raised in Oakland, CA to Cornelis Langeberg and Antonia Konig, both originally from Holland. He worked with his father from a young age learning to build houses and fly fishing in his free time. His interest and skill in building led him to pursue and earn his BA degree in architecture from UC Berkeley. It was there that he met and married Charlotte Ruth Cranford of Chicago Park, CA, an emergency room nurse. They had two daughters Jennifer and Heidi as Carl began building custom houses, apartments and commercial buildings.
The young family bought their own land in Sebastopol and all worked together living on the country lot and helping Carl build the house they still reside in. Carl went on designing extremely creative and beautiful homes for clients, friends and family into his 80's. He never passed up a chance to fly fish for steelhead, especially on his favorite stretches of the Klamath River. He also loved skiing and was an accomplished musician at piano and accordion. Much to the delight of his three grandchildren, the accordion always came out at family gatherings where dancing and yodeling always ensued. His smile and distinctive laugh were contagious and all who knew him could see fun trouble coming when he got that mischievous twinkle in his eye.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte, daughter Jennifer Vaughan, husband Jeff, daughter Heidi Barnes and husband Mat. Grandchildren Katelyn Barnes, Ali Vaughan and Jackson Vaughan will miss their beloved Grandpa Carl. A warm thank you to Katie Delario, who has been an amazing caregiver and a trusted presence in the last several years. The family asks that you raise a glass to a life well lived.
