On December 6, 2024, the world lost a beacon of light, love, and individuality. Cornell “Bink” Rhodes III, born on September 7, 1990, in Columbus, Ohio, to June and Cornell Rhodes Jr., was the cherished firstborn of two children. He lived a life filled with vibrancy, resilience, and authenticity that touched the hearts of everyone he encountered.
From an early age, Bink brought joy wherever he went. His love for music and dancing could transform any family gathering into a celebration. His talents extended to modeling, where he showcased his beauty and confidence, even earning recognition in the Columbus Airport Authority magazine for his proactive community involvement.
Bink participated in little league football, soccer, and boxing as a child. However, his most profound journey began in his teenage years when he courageously embraced his identity, transitioning into Courtney Riches. Courtney quickly became a trailblazer, fearlessly expressing herself and inspiring others to do the same. She encouraged those around her to live authentically, leaving a lasting impact on countless lives.
Courtney’s spirit was magnetic. To know her was to love her, and her laughter, kindness, and signature phrase “Girl” became her trademarks. She was lovingly known among her family as “Schicken Wing,” a nickname that embodied her humor and endearing nature. Her passing leaves an irreplaceable void, but her legacy of love, courage, and authenticity will continue to inspire.
Cornell is preceded in death by grandparents, Willie Ann Rhodes and Helena June Collins; Uncles Joe Rhodes, Larry “Bo” Walker, and Joe Collins, Aunts; Debbie Rhodes, Deborah Collins-Miller, Cousins; Shane “Duke” Collins, Chasmine Richardson, Olivia “Libby” Collins, and Tavaughn Collins.
Cornell is survived by a loving family who cherished him deeply: parents June and Cornell Rhodes Jr.; brothers Jaron Rhodes and Devon Eubanks; sisters Jamie Collins and Licia Adams; aunts Stacy Collins, Pamela Reeves, Stephanie Jones, Tressire Turman, Naza Williams, Corneita (Antonio) Allen, Michelle Harris-Adkins, Uncles; Shawn and Shane Collins, Carlos Akins, Tony Rhodes; Godmother Jada Ellison, Special Aunts; Doris “Bookie” and Lynn Rhodes. In this time of loss, we are reminded of the beauty and strength Cornell “Bink” Rhodes III brought into the world. May his memory be a comfort to all who mourn and a celebration of a life lived boldly and unapologetically. Rest in peace, Bink, as your light shines eternally in our hearts.
