Cornell Vance Obituary

Cornell Eugene Vance was born on February 27, 1947 to Cornell Mitchell and Doretha Cecilia Vance at General Hospital #2 in Kansas City, Missouri. He was preceded in death by parents, his big sister, Loretta Carson and brother, Gerard Vance.

Cornell was a graduate of Central High School. He was inducted into the United States Army on September 9, 1968. He served his country and was Honorably Discharged from his service September 8, 1974.

Cornell worked for Parkway Towers for 37 years. At the time of his second retirement in 2017, he was the longest serving employee.He loved the Lord and was baptized at an early age.

Cornell enjoyed attending the Truman Ridge Adult Day Care Center where he was loved, respected and admired by many. You would hear them routinely call him "Unc", "Uncle" or "Uncle Vance".

Cornell departed this life on Thursday, February 5, 2026 at his home.

He leaves to cherish his memory his life partner of 40 years, Denise Russell; three brothers, Norris Vance, Tony Vance (Cynthia) and Elbert Vance; three sisters, Rosie Hill (David), Rita McArn and Rosalin Vance; two step children, Rae Alexander and Vernon Jones; four step grandchildren (who affectionately called him" PaPa Vance"; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins other relatives and friends.

Memorial services will be Monday, February 23, at 11:30am at Lawrence A. Jones & Sons Linwood Chapel. Interment Leavenworth National Cemetery. Family hour will be from 11:00am-11:30am at the chapel. Arrangements entrusted to Lawrence A. Jones & Sons. Condolences may be shared on our website.
