Coy Burgess Obituary

Visit the Willis Funeral Service - Batesville website to view the full obituary.

Coy James Burgess, Sr., 57, departed this life on March 28, 2026, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas, leaving behind a legacy of love, strength, and unwavering devotion to his family.

Coy was born on September 9, 1968, in South Bend, Indiana, to the late Melvin Burgess and Jean (Rowlings) Burgess. From an early age, he embodied quiet strength—a man of few words, yet a presence that spoke volumes. He lived his life with purpose, humility, and a deep sense of responsibility to those he loved.

A dedicated truck driver for Rick Fuller, Coy took pride in his work and the life he built through hard work and determination. But beyond his profession, his true identity was found in his role as a husband, father, and grandfather. His love for his family was not loud—it was steady, constant, and unshakable.

Coy found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved fishing and hunting, working on and putting cars together, and watching NASCAR. He cherished time spent watching his grandchildren play ball, moments that filled him with pride and happiness. He also enjoyed his favorite shows, Grey’s Anatomy, Chicago Fire, and Chicago Hope, and found peace in creating Christmas ornaments—small pieces of his heart that will now be treasured forever.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Jean Burgess; his beloved son, Coy Burgess, Jr.; his mother-in-law, Daphine Halliburton; and his sister, Joy. Though reunited with them in eternity, his absence leaves a deep and painful void in the hearts of those who loved him.

Coy leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 34 years, Bobbie Burgess; his daughters, Sara (Curtis) Hess and Mary (Michael Sanders) Ruple; his brother, Troy Burgess; his sister, Glenna Brock; and his six adored grandchildren: Ekeile Hess, Bryliegh Barber, Kruz Barber, Cannon Hess, Madisyn Sanders, and Raelynn Sanders.

Coy James Burgess, Sr. was a man who didn’t need recognition to be great. His strength was quiet, his love was real, and his presence was a gift to everyone who knew him. He was a protector, a provider, and a foundation for his family—a man whose legacy will live on through every life he touched.

Though he is no longer physically here, his spirit remains—in every memory shared, every story told, and every moment his family carries him in their hearts.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Willis Funeral Service, officiated by Larron McClure.

He may be gone from our sight, but never from our hearts.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever remembered.
