Coy Hardin Hennis, Jr. was born on September 10, 1944, and peacefully departed this life on Wednesday, October 29, 2025. Coy was a man whose warmth, humor, and love for life touched everyone he met. Known for his friendly nature and quick wit, he had a remarkable gift for making people laugh and feel welcome wherever he went. Coy especially loved meeting new people, sharing stories, and joking around, always bringing a smile to those around him.
Coy graduated from Summerfield High School in 1962 and treasured the lifelong friendships he built there. He especially enjoyed reuniting with his classmates for gatherings and outings to reminisce and catch up.
After high school, Coy proudly served his country in the Army National Guard, demonstrating the same dedication, loyalty, and integrity that he carried throughout his life.
Coy began a long and dedicated career, holding positions with North Carolina Equipment Company, Roadway Logistics, and Pilot Freight Carriers, Inc. He later became the proud owner of Hennis Landscaping and Grading and was also a part owner of Commercial Fleet Service and Walkertown Lube and Car Wash. His strong work ethic, mechanical skill, and honesty earned him the respect and friendship of colleagues, customers, and neighbors alike.
A devoted and active member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, Coy faithfully served his church community for many years and proudly sang in the Men's Chorus, where his joyful spirit and strong voice were a blessing to all who heard him. He was also a key contributor to the Morris Chapel Annual Barbecue for more than 40 years, where his hard work, laughter, and fellowship became a cherished part of the event's tradition. In recognition of his dedication and service, Coy was honored as Lay Person of the Year in 1996, a testament to his faith, leadership, and love for his church family.
Coy is now reunited in heaven with his beloved wife of 59 years, Verda Idol Hennis. He was preceded in death by his parents, Coy Hardin Hennis, Sr., and Elizabeth Hennis, as well as his sisters, Peggy Wooten, Kay Parrish, and Judy Barham. He is also reunited with his niece, Pamela Yoder.
He is lovingly remembered by his son, Tim (and his wife Susan); four grandchildren, Brandon, Bailey (Chris), Cheyenne, and Tim Jr.; his sister, Faye Shropshire of Virginia; nieces, Tammy (Jim), Teresa (Randall), and Joy, with Tammy holding a particularly special and cherished bond with him. Nephews Aaron, Bryan, Floyd Jr., Johnny Jr., and Michael; and by countless cousins, special friends, and extended family members who will forever treasure his memory.
Following the passing of his beloved wife, Coy shared a special bond with his dear friend Beverly Disher, whose companionship brought him comfort, joy, and countless smiles. He also cherished the friendship of Craig and Jennifer Moser, who were like family to Coy and held a deeply meaningful place in his life and heart.
Coy's lighthearted spirit, generous heart, and unforgettable humor will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His laughter, kindness, and love of life will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know him.
