It´s June 20th, 2025, & I just read Craig passed 4/4/23. I was his brother in law in 1965. I married his wife Leota´s sister, Glenda in 1965. I was 25, & now 85. We were married 32 years. Craig was a hero to me ! I talked to my friends about Craig all the time. I was so proud to know him. So so sorry he passed. My fondest memory is when the 4 of us spent the weekend on the Colorado river water skiing on my boat in 1966. I never have & never will forget Craig.

Because of my folks getting me a Hot Rod Magazine subscription at 12yrs old and having read it before that...I knew of and followed in awe his land speed attempts and records. He showed what an individual can do with some determination. He is one of my motorsports heroes for sure. Bummed...he is a fixture of the motorsports world and will ALWAYS hold a legendary spot there. My condolences to his family !

My condolences to your family from a daughter of Tom Green (1931-2004), driver and builder of the Wingfoot Express, 413 mph, held for three days in 1964. Heard many stories and read many articles of Craig and Walt Arfons. My thoughts and prayers for your family. He lived a very exciting and focused life. Pedal to the metal.

Craig I was fortunate to volunteer at your shop in Rio Vista as you were a inspiration to me since the earlier land speed days and there I was volunteering at your shop and meeting you going to all your open house events to raise money for Sonic Arrow, hell I was overwhelmed that you knew me by my first name. Godspeed Craig now you're going light speed. Gary

I knew him only as a fan. I never met him. But he was an inspiration to a young kid like I was at the time. Perhaps his greatest accomplishment was his ability to live a good long life. Rest in Peace, Mr. Breedlove

Craig's pioneering spirit, courage, skill, high performance under extreme pressure, ambition, love for speed and motorsports, work ethic, good humor, pleasant manner, beloved/unforgettable presence, and brilliance in many respects, truly reflected the Spirit of America. He will forever be remembered as a titan in the sporting world, who was also a great guy.

Very sad today. I called Craig Breedlove my boss and my friend. I was his marketing director and we lived together at his shop 20 years ago when we were seeking sponsorship from the National Guard to run his car on the Black Rock Desert to break the record. The war in Iraq ended our plans. The Spirit of America Sonic Arrow was eventually sold to Steve Fossett, who died in a private plane crash when he was actually scouting out some new place to run the car. The car now sits forlornly in a Denver museum...not in the Smithsonian in Washington where we wanted it to be. I was hoping he could resurrect an effort as he had a lot of plans on the drawing board. He did get his biography written a few years ago. Order "Ultimate Speed" by Samuel Hawley on Amazon for the incredible story of this fearless sportsman, my childhood hero....and my friend Craig Breedlove.
