“Don’t brag about tomorrow, since you don’t know what the day will bring.” Proverbs 27:1
Craig Alex Carner, Jr., was born February 12, 1979 in McAlester, Oklahoma to his father Craig Alex Carner and his mother LeeAnna Hart. Later gaining his stepfather, Russell Johson.
Craig was a man who understood things on a level few ever could. He had a natural ability and could spend hours dissecting how things worked just for the satisfaction of understanding them, whether it be a computer, a problem, or life itself. He was intelligent, curious, and fiercely independent, always searching for answers and rarely leaving a question unanswered.
He had a deep love for football; The Huskers and even more so… the San Francisco 49ers. He also found simple joy in life, whether that meant good conversation, time spent with family, or a cold Mountain Dew in hand.
More than anything, Craig was loyal, loyal in a way that left a mark on everyone who truly knew him. He was more than a brother, more than a father, more than a friend, he was a constant presence, a protector, and someone who fought through life with a strength and ferocity that will not be forgotten.
Craig passed away on March 19, 2026 at his home in McCook. He was 47 years of age.
Craig’s life was not defined by his struggles, but by his strength, his mind, the loyalty he gave so freely, and a heart so big, even he didn’t know how to carry. His fight on this earth was hard-fought, and he fought it with a courage most will never fully understand.
He will be deeply missed, forever remembered, and always loved.
He was preceded in death by his father, Craig Alex Carner; his mother, LeeAnna Hart; his stepfather, Russell Johnson; and his brother-in-law, Michael Fickle.
Craig is survived by his daughters, Brenna Carner and Audrie Carner; his son, Craig Alex Carner III; his sisters, Theresa (Larry) Steinbeck and Barbara Fickle; along with his nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends whose lives he touched.
Cremation was chosen and memorial services are scheduled for 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 26, 2026 at Herrmann-Jones Funeral Chapel in McCook. A private family inurnment will take place at a later date. Refreshments at McCook Christian Church will follow services.
