Craig Hugh McLean, 65, of Crystal Lake, passed away on Saturday, June 7, 2025.
Craig was born on August 5, 1959, in Elgin, IL, to Hugh and Elizabeth (Bainbridge) McLean. He graduated from Illinois State University with a degree in geography and went on to build a long and fulfilling career as the head groundskeeper at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. After more than 30 years of service, he retired and returned home to Illinois.
Craig was deeply connected to the natural world. He had a great love for the outdoors, gardening, and wildflowers. He was environmentally conscientious, thoughtful, and had a sharp, often very dry, sense of humor. A true Midwesterner, he was a lifelong fan of the Cubs and the Packers, no matter how things were going.
He is survived by his sisters, Pamela (the late Ken) Miller, Debbie (Ted) Groat, and Cynthia (the late John) Kimball; nieces and nephews, Neil (Jamie) Groat, Leah Groat, and Dominique Miller; his great niece, Helen Groat; and many cousins and friends who will miss him dearly.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents.

So sorry to hear about Craig's passing. We were friends from kindergarten through high school and coworkers during high school. I always wondered what he did after graduation, now I know. So sad that he moved back to Crystal Lake and I had no idea. I would have loved to catch up on how our lives went as adults.
