Craig Patterson Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Lunning Funeral Chapel on Dec. 9, 2025.
Craig Alan "Doc" Patterson, 65, of Burlington, Iowa, passed away suddenly Sunday, December 7, 2025.
Born on September 21, 1960, in Burlington, Iowa, he was the son of Anthony and Diane (Korf) Patterson. He married Railynne Oetken and of that union they had three children. They later divorced.
Doc was a 1979 graduate of Mediapolis High School. He was a United States Marines veteran. After his service, he attended Des Moines Area Community College and obtained an associates degree in Auto Mechanic Technology.
Craig was an auto technician with Deery Brothers for many years. After his retirement he enjoyed taking early morning hikes where he photographed sunrises, wildlife, and nature. He was good with handyman projects, gardening, and loved to cook usual and unusual dishes. Craig's faith was strong in the Lord and made it a daily routine to spend time reading his Bible and praying. He loved nothing more than his three children and his two grandchildren. Spending time with his grandchildren brought him the most joy. He never left without saying "give me a BIG hug before I go".
Craig is survived by his son Colton (Adryana) Patterson of Mediapolis, Iowa; two grandchildren: Dani and Carter Patterson; parents: Tony and Diane Patterson of Mediapolis, Iowa; three siblings Linda (Brian) Nichols of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Cindy (Kenny) Huffman of Mediapolis, Iowa and Jennifer (Mark) Tonne of Shueyville, Iowa. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two children: Brooklyn Patterson and Connor Patterson and a beloved cousin Terry Cover.
Per his wishes cremation has been entrusted and accorded to the care of Lunning Chapel.
A graveside service will be held at a later date in Kossuth Cemetery.
A memorial has been established in his memory for Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes or Breakthrough Type 1 Diabetes (Formerly JDRF).
