Craig Alan Ray

1949 - 2024

Craig Alan Ray, a Missouri country boy born on January 2, 1949, in Clay County, was the son of Juanita and Jay Ray Sr. With a spirit of curiosity and camaraderie he embraced many mischievous ventures of rural, Missouri with his cohorts, brother Jay and cousin Sammy Joe. Those 3 musketeers tolerated yet happily teased Kathy Lou, his baby sister.
During his teen years Craig earned his letters in wrestling and football at Liberty High School showcasing his athleticism and passion for sports. Shortly after high school graduation, he became a paratrooper in the U.S. Army. Serving honorably with the 173rd airborne, stationed in Germany and later in Vietnam, Craig's dedication and bravery defined his military service.
It was during a Vietnam R & R in Australia that Craig met the love of his life, Mary Anne. A chance encounter at the Texas Tavern in Kings Cross, Sydney, led to a spirited argument that sparked a love story lasting 54 years as they were married on January 2, 1970, at the Nazarene Church in Liberty, Missouri.
Craig's professional journey included working for Mobil Oil, Recognition Equipment Inc., and Sun Oil Company as an electronic engineer. In 1984 he established CR Signs, Inc., leaving a lasting mark with his sign work at Arby's and Sutherland's Lumber. That chapter closed in 1991. Outside of this professional life Craig ventured into various other fields from selling prepaid legal insurance to cable contracting and graphics consulting.
As a Father Craig was known for his fun and cheeky personality; always ready to lend a helping hand and serving as a cheerleader for his loved ones. His big dreams, strong ethics, and unwavering support made him the backbone of his family.
Two decades after high school Craig attended Rogers State University, studying environmental engineering, and later earned a Chemistry degree from Rogers State University. His successful academic journey at various colleges reflected his commitment to continuous learning and growth. Retirement brought new adventures for Craig, such as fixing things to indulging in his love for motorcycle racing, dirt biking, RC cars, deer hunting, and fishing. One of his new interests even led him to become a top-ranked gamer in the Plunder playlist of Call of Duty, showcasing his lifelong enthusiasm for exploration and competition. A member of the Broken Arrow VFW Craig was a staunch supporter of veterans. He also became a treasure hunter in his spare time, embodying the spirit of an absent-minded professor. Lastly, his passion for stray dogs throughout his whole life, resulted in numerous k9 friendships.
Craig Alan Ray is survived by his loving wife, Mary Anne, their three cherished children, Brett Alan Ray, Brandy Anne Peper, Peggy Anne Brix (Husband Jonathan Brix), as well as grandchildren Brandon Scott Peper, Erika Jeanette DeLozier, Brooke Anne Onder, Taleb Ayman Hamzeh and Sota Anna-Lynn Brix, and seven great-grandchildren. Numerous extended family members and friends are mourning his passing.
Craig is preceded in death by his parents, his son-in-law Jeff Peper, and his daughter-in-law Kerri Ray.
A funeral ceremony honoring Craig's extraordinary life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 13th, in the Rivercrest Chapel at 13329 S. Memorial Drive in Bixby. U.S. Army military honors will be performed by the Ft. Sill Honor Guard, paying tribute to a man who served his country and his loved ones with equal dedication. Memories of Craig will forever live on in the hearts of those who were touched by his warmth, generosity, and zest for life.
