Craig L. Spencer, 58, passed on September 24, 2021, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital after a year-long illness.
Born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, September 24, 1963, Craig was the son of Layne Davis Spencer and the late A. Lawrence Spencer of Meadville. Craig was a 1982 graduate of Meadville High School.
Craig was a long-time resident of Meadville and was often called the "Mayor of Meadville." He was loved by so many and always had a story to share. His positive, friendly attitude was welcomed by all. Craig was well known as "DJ Spence," entertaining many people over the years.
He was very family oriented and loved spending time with family and friends, vacations to the beach, and playing with Molly the well-loved family dog. Craig enjoyed watching his collection of old sitcoms from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He was an avid Steeler and Pirate fan, he rarely missed watching a game.
Survivors in addition to his loving mother, Layne, include 2 brothers, Keith Spencer and wife Stacie of New Market, Maryland and Scott Spencer and wife Yvonne of Damascus, Maryland; a sister, Lisa Stockton and Mark Weber of Meadville; 8 nephews and nieces, Ryan and Madi Spencer, Jeffrey Spencer and wife Alex, Sara and Timmy Spencer, Clayton and Meghan Stockton and Cohl Weber; and 1 great niece, Blaine Spencer. In addition to family, Craig is also survived by his very close family friends, Paul and Pam Slomiany of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Calling hours will be Saturday, October 2, 2021 from 3-5 p.m. at the Robert W. Waid Funeral Home, Inc., 581 Chestnut Street, Meadville.
The funeral service will be private with Rev. Sam Marchetta, Chaplain of Wesbury United Methodist Community, officiating.
Interment will be in St. Brigid Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials be made to Hand In Hand Christian Counseling (for the Challenge Center), 118 Grant Street, Franklin, PA 16323.
