Sister Cristina Marie

Cristina Marie Buczkowski was born Cristina Josepha Buczkowski in Buenos Aires, Argentina. She was the daughter of Mr. Walter Buczkowski and Mrs. Helen Buczkowski (nee Podlesny) and had four siblings, three brothers and one sister. Her family emigrated to the United States of America when Cristina was 3 years old. As a young person, Cristina attended public schools. She was active in her home parish church, St. Mary Magdalene in Camarillo, California. She graduated from Loyola Marymount University with a Liberal Studies Degree.
Through her work as coordinator of the Young Adult Ministry at St. Mary Magdalen Church, she met the Sisters of Notre Dame. She was invited to become a member of the pioneer class of SND Associates in 2000. After becoming an Associate, she understood that she had the charism of the Sisters of Notre Dame and that God was calling her to the vowed life.
Over the course of her religious life Sister Cristina Marie primarily ministered to the poor and underprivileged. She was an educator, a missionary in Uganda, Africa, a foster mother at El Ranchito de los Ninos in New Mexico and worked for Catholic Charities in Laredo, Texas serving the immigrant community.
Sister Cristina Marie's funeral service will be held at St. Julie Parish in Newbury Park on September 27th at 1:30 p.m. with a reception following. Memorial donations can be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame 1776 Hendrix Ave., Thousand Oaks, CA 91360
