Crystal Rosalie Pena

Crystal Rosalie Peña, passed away on Friday, July 4, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, leadership, and tireless advocacy. Born and raised in Deming, New Mexico, Crystal graduated from Deming High School and only left for a short period before coming back to the community she cherished-always striving to make it better.
A passionate champion for early childhood education, Crystal dedicated her life to ensuring every child and family had a strong start. Whether she was testifying at the State Capitol or meeting with lawmakers in D.C., Crystal's voice was powerful, persistent, and filled with heart. For over 16 years, she poured her soul into the nonprofit she helped grow, fighting every day for children, families, and the future.
Crystal's impact went far beyond her career. She was a vibrant presence in Deming, always finding ways to contribute, connect, and uplift. From local events to volunteer work, if something positive was happening in town, chances are Crystal had a hand in it.
She is survived by a loving family who meant the world to her: her parents, James and Rosa Crim; her daughter, Jocelyn Peña; her unofficial stepson, Devin Reedy; her fiancé and partner in life, Bryan Reedy; her sister, Samantha Crim; and her cherished nephew, Robert Hethcox. Her laughter, strength, and generosity will live on in each of them-and in everyone who had the privilege of knowing her.
Crystal loved animals-especially her beloved pets: her dogs, Citra, Gizmo, and Noname, and her cherished cats, Hope, Stout, Princess, Baby, Rummy, and the adorable Minnie. Her passion for advocacy and community was equally strong. In her honor, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Deming/Luna County Humane Society or to Help NM, the nonprofit organization she served with heartfelt dedication.
Crystal lived boldly, loved fiercely, and left the world better than she found it. She will be deeply missed, but her light will continue to shine in the lives she touched.
A gathering to celebrate Crystal's life will be held on Friday, July 11, 2025 beginning at 3:00 p.m. and continuing into the early evening. Family and friends are invited to join in remembering and honoring her at 2525 Hwy 418 SW, Deming, NM 88030. This celebration will be a time to share memories, offer support, and reflect on the love and light Crystal brought into the lives of so many. To honor Crystal's vibrant spirit and the joy she brought to those around her, the family kindly asks that attendees wear colorful attire. Cremation has been entrusted to Baca's Mimbres Crematory.
