Curtis Backmon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vaughn Greene Funeral Services - East on Sep. 21, 2023.
Curtis Lee Backmon was born on February 7, 1943, in Orangeburg County, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Johnnie and Eliza Backmon. He departed this life on September 12, 2023.
Curtis was educated in the Baltimore City School system. Later his career began as a roller with Bethlehem Steel. He retired from here after thirty-seven years of service. He was a dedicated and hard worker.
Curtis leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Lillie M. Backmon who he has known for 55 years and married for 42 of these years. Four step-children two daughters Lillian Stewart and Lynette Mackey and two sons Curtis Stewart, Jr., and James Stewart.
Curtis had four sons from a previous marriage, Norman Backmon, and spouse (Dawn) and Andre Backmon. Quinton Backmon and Curtis Backmon Jr. preceded him in death.
Siblings preceded him in death – two sisters Louella Thomas, Annie Clay Harvell and three brothers Johnnie, Solomon, and Jerome Backmon.
Cousins and a host of grandchildren and great grandchildren, family, and friends.
In 2019 Curtis and Lillie relocated to Warrenton, Virginia. Curtis's loved the water, fishing, and gardening. His favorite thing to do was to watch western and sports. He loved sitting on the back porch watching the scenery and animals running back and forth across the yard. He loved it when the grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit.
Words from his Wife: I give all the glory to God for His grace and mercy that he has shown to me. I can write many things today, but life is a journey. We had some good days and some bad days. But through it all God showed us the way. Now I truly can say my good days outweighed my bad days. I won't complain. I love you Curtis and to God Be the Glory!
