After graduation Curtis attended Arkansas Southern University and joined the United States Air Force in 1955. While stationed in Lincoln, NE Curtis met and married Eileen Peterson on September 22, 1957. They had three children David, Daniel and Lori. Curtis had a distinguished military career in the Air Force that allowed him and his family to travel the world. While in the Air Force he was a member of the Model Airplane Flying Team and competed in National and Worldwide Competitions. Curtis retired as a Master Sergeant after 20ys and was very proud of his service. After retiring and moving his family to Sherman TX in 1975, Curtis went to work at Texas Instruments and attended Grayson County College to further his education where he received an Associate's Degree of Applied Science. He retired from TI after a 20yr career. Curtis was member of the Trinity Lutheran Church and a member of Sherman Country Club. He enjoyed bowling, archery, flying model airplanes, hunting, fishing and shooting trap. For many years he was a member of the Grayson County Bowmen Archery Club and taught the bow hunting safety course at Hagerman National Wildlife Refuge. Curtis was a friend to all and was always willing to give anyone a hand. His greatest joy was his family that he loved and cherished very much. To say he was loved and will be missed is an understatement. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents, son Daniel Burrus, brother James Burrus and great grandson Ashton Harris.
