Master Chief Curtis Nelson

On August 4, 1952, MASTER CHIEF CURTIS NELSON was born in Dawson, Georgia, to the late Willie Nelson and the late Mildred Crumbley Nelson. Curtis was one of six children.
Curtis attended the public schools of Terrell County and graduated in 1970. Curtis attended Albany State College and then decided to enlist in the United States Navy. In 2002, he retired from the Navy after serving 30 years.
Curtis was reared in a Christian home and was a member of ATOC African Methodist Episcopal Church in Dawson, Georgia. He later became a faithful Banks Street Memorial Baptist Church member in Norfolk, Virginia. There, he served as a trustee and an usher. After relocating to Georgia, he joined Ebenezer Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia.
Master Chief Curtis Nelson transitioned from this life to his heavenly home on May 23, 2023, at his residence in Stonecrest, Georgia. His parents and his sister, Shirley Nelson Bell, preceded him in death.
Loving memories of his life are left to his wife, Brenda H. Nelson; daughter, Dana E. Nelson, D.D.S., of Cornelius, North Carolina; sisters, Yvonne Schell (Lamar) of Stonecrest, Georgia, Judy Nelson of Atlanta, Georgia, and Loretta Williams (Rogers) of Albany, Georgia; brother, Billy Nelson, Sr., (Helen) of Dawson, Georgia; aunt, Mrs. Carolyn Daniels of Atlanta, Georgia; mother-in-law, Mrs. Edythe Harden of Dawson, Georgia; sisters-in-law, Vivian McClendon (Frederick) of Warner Robins, Georgia, Nathalyn Haynes (Michael) of Beaver Creek, Ohio, Marsha Jackson (Nick) of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Stacey Ivey (Steve) of Coolidge, Georgia; brothers-in-law, Flozell Harden III (Larue) of Perry, Georgia, and Timothy Harden (Cassandra) of Warner Robins, Georgia; godson, Brandon Ansley Johnson of Columbia, Maryland; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
