CW3 (Ret) Danny Ray Carter, 70, of Smiths Station, AL passed away early Sunday afternoon, July 7, 2024, in the comfort of his home in Smiths Station.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 pm EDT on Thursday, July 11, 2024, at Vance Brooks Funeral Home in Phenix City. Interment with full Military Honors will follow at Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 pm EDT at the funeral home in Phenix City.
Mr. Carter was born December 24, 1953, in Opp, AL, son of the late Carlton Carter and Flora Mae Davis Carter. He was employed as a technician with the Civil Service at Fort Benning, GA. He served our country honorably both in the United States Army National Guard and the United States Army retiring after 23 years of Military service. He was a member of the VFW in Seale, AL and enjoyed spending time outdoors fishing and hunting. He loved sharing quality time with all his family and telling stories about his many outdoor adventures. He was a Baptist by faith.
Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Nell Williams and a brother, Jerry Carter.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Linda Sue Slay Carter of Smiths Station, AL; two daughters, Belinda Sanders (John Shiver) of Smiths Station, AL, and Charala Hewitt (Gabriel) of Fort Mitchell, AL; one son, Danny Gene Carter (Samantha) of Phenix City, AL; two brothers, Dwight Carter of Sampson, AL, and Timmy Carter (Sheila) of DeFuniak Springs, FL; sister-in-law, Robin Carter Sadler of Winston Salem, NC; fourteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, extended family members, and many caring friends.
