Cynthia Jane Sawyer

1964 - 2026

Cynthia Jane Sawyer, 61, passed away peacefully at her home on January 3, 2026, surrounded by her loving family and friends. She was born to Chester and Sally (Collinge) Flejszar and grew up in Muskegon, Michigan. Cynthia graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1982, attended Muskegon Community College, and earned her teaching degree from Western Michigan University.

She spent 30 years teaching with White Lake Community Education, where she enjoyed helping others learn and grow.

Cynthia married Erik Sawyer on October 29, 1994. Together they raised two daughters, Kallan and Maren, who were the center of her life.

Cynthia loved being outdoors and spending time on the water. She enjoyed boating, sailing, skiing, hiking, traveling, going to the beach, and working in her yard and gardens. Time with family and friends was always important to her.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Stephen, and her parents. She is survived by her husband, Erik, and their daughters, Kallan and Maren. She is also survived by her sister, Constance (Charles) Schrup, and her brother, Christopher (JoAnn) Flejszar, along with many nieces and nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family members.

Cynthia will be remembered for her devotion to her family, her love of teaching, and her passion for nurturing life-whether in her classroom, her yard, or her relationships. Her legacy lives on in the beauty she created, the knowledge she shared, and the many lives she touched with her kindness and love. Some people make happiness for others by simply being themselves. Cindy certainly accomplished that.
