Cy was born on June 18, 1931 in Pikeville, KY to Cyril Williams, Sr. and Marie Williams. He grew up in Red Jacket, WV and graduated from Magnolia High School. After high school, Cy continued his education at West Virginia University where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering and began his career as a professional mining engineer.
Cy graduated from The Engineer School in Fort Belvoir, VA and served with the 74th Engineer Battalion of the Army Corps of Engineers in the rebuilding efforts in Korea. Upon his return to the states, Cy worked for Island Creek Coal Company and met Connie Diaz, who he married on May 7, 1960. They moved to Birmingham, AL where they began their family before settling in Beckley, WV where they relocated so that Cy could begin working for Gates Engineering. Cy had a long career in engineering and worked for numerous organizations including Crucible Steel, Cannelton Industries, Ruhr American Coal Corporation, Maple Meadow Mining Company, Riverton Corporation, Sohio Oil Company, BP Oil Company, and Predict/DLI. After his successful career, Cy spent his retirement playing golf, serving as an active member of the St. Francis de Sales church community, and spending time with his kids and grandkids among many other things.
Cy will be remembered by his family as an avid golf fan and a supporter of all WVU sports, the Washington Redskins, and the Cincinnati Reds, as well as a devoted Pop Pop to his grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, Cy is preceded in death by his wife of nearly 60 years, Connie.
He is survived by his children Dave Williams (Mary) of Tallahassee, FL, Beth Ludwick (Craig) of Peachtree City, GA, Lori Parker of Beckley, WV, and Chris Williams of Bossier City, Louisiana; his four grandchildren Kylie Williams of Atlanta, GA, Cara Ludwick (Luke) of Old Orchard Beach, ME, Drew Ludwick of Peachtree City, GA, and Haley Parker of Charlotte, NC; his brother Phil Williams (Mary) of Forest, VA and sister Nora Heiber of Melbourne, FL; multiple nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog Good Girl who provided him with love and joy until the very end.
