Dorris Levurne (D.L.) Moody of Russellville left his earthly body to claim his home in heaven on Tuesday, December 23, 2025 at Stella Manor Nursing and Rehab. He was born to the late Alvie and Rachel Moody in Valley Special, Arkansas (near Heber Springs) on April 14, 1932. He was a graduate of West Side High School in Greers Ferry, Arkansas and attended Arkansas Polytechnic College (now Arkansas Tech University). After teaching and coaching for about nine years, he worked as a counselor with the Arkansas Welfare Department for nine years. He had been an elder in the church since 1969 where he served on the session for eight three-year terms consecutively and represented the church at many presbyterial, synodic, and General Assembly meetings. He also served as a Sunday School teacher, youth group leader, session clerk, and treasurer over the years. He was a Boy Scout Leader for several years and actually started the Boy Scout Troop in Hector, Arkansas where he was a coach and social studies teacher for five years. He was also a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.

D.L. was married to his high school sweetheart, Martha Jo Hawkins, for 70 years. After his retirement they finished going to all 48 of the contiguous states in the USA, as well as to Mexico and Canada. They enjoyed visiting many of the National Parks.

He is survived by two sons Edwin (Johnette) Moody of Russellville and Randy (Lee) of Alva, Florida; one brother Charles (Lorene) of Southaven, Mississippi; five grandchildren Celeste Scribner, Lucas (Aimee) Moody, and Bethany (Russ) Swindell of Russellville; Rachel (Ian) Michel of Lehigh Acres, Florida, and Philip Moody of Mesa, Arizona; six great-grandchildren Devin (Shelbie) Ward, Lakyn and Jansen Scribner, Emma and Liam Moody, and Raelyn Michel; one great-great grandson, Matthew Ward; three great-great granddaughters, Eliya and Enslie Ward, Naiya Menoza-Scribner; three nieces Vickie Estes, Janna Porterfield, and Cindy Stokes; three nephews Jerry Moody, David Moody, and Mark Moody; other relatives and many friends.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers and their wives: Julius (Edith) Moody and Owen (Faye) Moody.

A celebration of his life will be at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025 at the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church of Russellville with Pastor Jim Fisk officiating. Visitation will be an hour before the service at the church. Burial will be in Heber Springs City Cemetery by Humphrey Funeral Service.

D. L. Moody was one of the kindest, most helpful people I had the privilege of working with at Arkansas Tech. Such a good man. Prayers for the family.
