Dagmar Swenson

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Dagmar Swenson, a beloved member of our community who resided on Warren Road near Ithaca. Dagmar joined the Racker family in 1999 when the Elm Street IRA became part of Racker's care. From that time forward, she was a quiet yet steady presence whose calm spirit and gentle nature touched everyone who knew her.
Though Dagmar did not speak, her awareness and observant nature spoke volumes. She had a unique way of connecting with others, often through a simple glance that conveyed warmth and understanding. Her fondness for walking brought her comfort and joy, and those peaceful moments will be cherished by her family, countless staff and friends who supported her throughout the years.
Dagmar's life was filled with simple pleasures and meaningful connections. She enjoyed horseback riding, bowling, decorating christmas trees, finger painting, and attending dances. She loved outings with friends and staff, dinners with her mother, and relaxing by the pool. Music was a constant source of joy. She especially loved Kenny G, Frank Sinatra, and Latin rhythms that helped her sleep. Dagmar also had a wonderful sense of humor and would burst into laughter at a good joke.
She took pride in her appearance, favoring the color red, painting her nails, and occasionally wearing light makeup for special occasions. Visits to the salon for curly perms were among her favorite treats. Her elegance and vibrant spirit shone through in every detail.
Dagmar was an only child. Her mother was a devoted presence in her life, keeping her close throughout the years and visiting her often filled her with joy. According to her mother, Dagmar's name, meaning "morning light" in Viking tradition, perfectly reflected the brightness she brought to those around her.
Dagmar's quiet strength and serene presence will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
