Obituary
"Life is but a working day, a time to work, a time to pray, and then comes death this comes to all."
When we take the wires of a cage apart, we do not hurt the bird; we help it; we let it out of its prison. So, it was when death came to Daisy Moore Byrd on January 23, 2026. She was born Daisy Mae Perkins, biological parents Samuel Perkins and Sarah Moore. She was lovingly raised by her adoptive parents, Richard and Daisy Moore, who took her at six days old and nurtured her with love and faith.
She grew up in Magnolia Baptist Church where she was baptized at the age of twelve by Reverend Fred C. Mathew in July 1941. She served as Sunday School Secretary during her youth. As an adult, she continued faithfully in Christian service as Church Secretary, Usher, Sunday School Teacher, Youth Assistant, and Trustee. She became a devoted member of Greater New Guide Baptist Church and worked diligently in ministry.
Sister Byrd moved her membership to the Greater New Guide Church in January 1983, after much prayer and the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
After becoming a member of Greater New Guide, she joined Usher Ministry # 1 the Home Mission and became chairperson of Home Mission Clothes Closet and a member of the Sunday School Faculty.
She became a member of the Fourth District Usher Ministry, where she served as Vice President and President for a number of years. Her service extended to being a member of the Fourth District Congress of Christian Education, also a member of Louisiana Baptist State Ushers, there she worked and served on the Workshop Committee, Corresponding Secretary, Chairperson of the Budget and Finance Committee, and Senior Advisor.
She was educated in the public school system of
Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and attended Southern University, majoring in Accounting. She was employed with Universal Life Insurance Company and retired on June 30, 1991, after thirty years of dedicated service.
She was united in marriage to Davis Byrd in May 1948. This union bore no children. In 1955 she christened Eleanor V. Knox. In 1963, Eleanor V. Knox was adopted with name change to Eleanor V. K. Byrd.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Eleanor B. Joseph, Two grandsons Harold L. II and Edwin J. (LaToya) Joseph, four great grandchildren, Andrew J., Ethan J., Aaron J., Reagan M. Joseph, One sister Ethel L Jenkins, Stockton, Ca., along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Preceded in death by her husband, Davis Byrd; her biological parents, Samuel Perkins and Sarah Sanford, her adoptive parents, Richard and Daisy Moore; brother Rance J. Jenkins, Sisters Ella P. Crusto and Ora L. Perkins, Rosa L. Perkins, Vera Matthews, and son-in-law, Harold L. Joseph.
By the side of the river of light,
Where the saints are immortal and fair,
Are robed in garments of white.
Think of me over there,
For this journey I have trod
And have gone home to live with God.
