Daisy Moore Obituary
Daisy Williams Moore, lovingly known as "Dee" to her many friends, passed away peacefully at the age of 101 on December 11, 2025. The daughter of the late Roby C. Williams and Belzora B. Williams, Dee grew up in Woodlawn, Virginia. She later moved to Roanoke, where she became a registered nurse and devoted her professional life to working in the operating room at the VA Hospital.
Dee was married for 57 years to her beloved husband, the late L. Franklin Moore, Jr. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service to others.
She is survived by her sisters, Fay Welsch and Edna Hanks (Nelson); her son, Edward Moore (Runan); her daughter, Katherine Laws (Rob); and her stepson, Franklin Bost (Janet). She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Alex Moore (Anthony), Preston Moore (Samantha), Mary Stone Eddins (Kit), Jon Laws (Ying), Bob Laws (Leslie), and Becca McNeill (Drew), as well as her great-grandchildren-Liam, Atley, Sage, Calvin, Desi, Miles, and Teddy-who truly lit up her world.
In addition to her parents and husband, Dee was preceded in death by her parents-in-law, Mary Stone Moore and L. Franklin Moore, Sr.; her brothers, Glenn Williams, Perry Williams, Jimmie Williams, and Donald Williams; her sister, Ruth Turner; and her sisters-in-law, Mary Stone Rutherfoord and Margaret Ehle.
Dee's life was firmly rooted in her faith in God, her love of family, and a deep commitment to volunteerism. A devoted member of Second Presbyterian Church, she served in many roles over the years, including leading Sunday school and confirmation classes, and serving as both an Elder and a Deacon. She was also an active member of the Junior League of Roanoke, where she contributed to numerous community initiatives, including local children's theater and educational programs for intellectually challenged children.
Her passion for service extended to her role on the Board of Directors that helped establish Bethany Hall, a local alcoholism treatment center for women.
Dee and her husband, Bud, shared a love of travel and adventure, taking many trips across the country to visit national parks and enjoy hiking along the way. Dee also loved playing tennis with friends and horseback riding in Botetourt County with her sister-in-law, "Stony." Remarkably, she began both sports in her early forties and continued playing tennis well into her late eighties. Together, Dee and Bud maintained an active lifestyle and enjoyed jogging at the Roanoke Athletic Club.
Above all else, Dee treasured time spent with her family and friends, delighting in meaningful conversations about life, faith, and her many interests.
A celebration of Dee's life will be held on January 6, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Second Presbyterian Church in Roanoke, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any of the community outreach programs supported by Second Presbyterian Church.
