Dale A. Panchot Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 28, 2005.
Some people are lucky enough to know what they want to do with their lives at a very early age. Staff Sgt. Dale Panchot was one of those people. "He wanted to be a soldier from the time he could pull on a pair of camouflage pants, from the time he was 3 years old," recalled his mother, Karen Panchot. "He wore those every day and his friends would always be out in the fields, playing Army." Panchot, 26, was killed Nov. 17 in an ambush on his patrol near Balad, Iraq. He was based at Fort Carson and is survived by his mother and his father, Arland Panchot. He grew up in Northome, Minn., playing baseball, football and basketball in high school. He joined the Army Reserves at 17, following his father and grandfather into the military. Days before he died, Panchot told his parents he had signed up for his last three-year tour. Having fulfilled his dreams of military service, he had new ones. "He wanted to be a history teacher and raise a family," his mother said.

Dear Panchot family,
I was looking through my treasure chest today and found the wristband I purchased that has Dale's name on it. He is not forgotten, even by someone who didn't meet him. Blessing,
Mary

To the family of Staff Sgt. Dale A. Panchot:

As you may know, the Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation has honored your loved one at its Memorial Day Sunday worship service (each year in May) … since the time of your fallen hero's ultimate sacrifice. We will continue to pay tribute to our nation's veterans … lest we ever forget!

Now we would like to honor you … as the next-of-kin … who have also paid a great price on the altar of liberty. On Sunday 29 September at 11:00 a.m. we will host a Gold Star Family Sunday.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship … as we pay tribute to your sacrifice. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain (Colonel-Retired) Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “By Dying, We Live.” The special music will be the husband/wife vocal/piano — Wickman Duo. Following the worship experience, your family is invited to attend a social time in our Fellowship Hall … with some light refreshments.

As this historic chapel has limited seating, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Respectfully,
Leila Campbell

The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.

Hello,
We would like to express our deepest condolences and also let the Panchot Family know that we recently sent Care Packages to American troops in the war zones. Each box carried a dedication sheet that includes the name, service information and a photo of your loved one. We recognize that this is a humble tribute, but we wanted you to know that it is heartfelt and made possible by thousands of like-minded individuals in the youth hockey community and beyond. We will not forget. May God Bless you and keep you strong.
Sincerely,

To the family and friends of Dale Panchot
I only meet Dale once just days before he was killed. I was stationed on a base, US named “Anaconda.” Dale and his unit were on the base for rest and supplies. Our unit was from MN so there was an instant connection. We were able to play a pickup game of softball and he let me try out the tank an experience I will never forget. I later got word that he was killed on that that following patrol. I talk at the local school every year and haven't yet shared this story but think of it every year. On this Veterans Day I would like to thank Dale for his service and sacrifice and the time we were able to spend with him.
Thank You

Dear Family;
Project Compassion is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. Artist, founder and President; Kaziah Hancock will be coming to Minnesota in a few months, approximately March 2010. She has been asked by one of your local media agencies to attend an event to honor our Country and the State of Minnesota’s fallen soldiers/heroes. We would be truly honored for the opportunity to paint a portrait of your hero to present it to you and your family. If you have already received a portrait of your hero from us, please keep in mind that we have been approved by our sponsors to paint a second portrait of each soldier as long as it is requested in behalf of the heroes Mother, Father and/or spouse. We only paint these 100% free to the families because of our sponsors. Please visit www.heropaintings.com or contact me directly at [email protected]. We would be truly honored to have a chance to learn more about each of these fine soldiers, our modern day heroes!
Very sincerely,

November 17, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Dale, but I am remembering
his service and sacrifice. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Dear Panchot Family,

Our newspaper published Dale's letter to you. I read his letter to my Bible Study group. We are studying Genesis and were very touched by Dale's awe in touching the water of the river described in Genesis. There is no doubt that Dale felt closer to God while in Iraq. He truly was a warrior of God while there, protecting us and protecting "God's people" the Israelis. Our Bible Study group prayed for you and for Dale. If Dale thought touching the river "was something else" and "pretty cool"...imagine how he felt the day he came face to face with Jesus in His Father's Kingdom! God bless you with His peace and comfort until the day you are reunited with Dale.

If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life, but I promised Le Ron A. Wilson (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

April 29, 2007

I am sorry it took me so long to post an entry for your family member. I am trying to catch up posting condolences after I was informed of this website. God Bless Legacy.com for allowing me to honor these heros. Especailly this young man that I had such a hand in leading to his first Military assignment.

I can't imagine what you have been going through since being notified of the death of your young Warrior. The Military and families all over the USA and world are still grieving with you and praying for you. What a very brave individual you have in your family that would give up a life for their homeland and its people so they can remain free. Your Freedom Fighter served the Country above and beyond the call of duty, let no one ever tell you different. With his mission now completed your Warrior has been redeployed to Heaven to sit on the right hand of the Supreme Commander and Chief. The Father above has Dale in his arms and has given him peace as well as eventually easing your pain and suffering. God speed to you and Staff Sgt. Dale A. Panchot, my HERO. We as Americans are proud of them that are willing to sacrifice for this great Nation, THANK YOU.

To the family of Staff Sgt. Dale A. Panchot:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Memorial Day Sunday worship service at 11:00 a.m. on 27 May, 2007. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the neighboring states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, U.S. Army Chaplain, LTC Kenneth L. Beale, Jr. will preach a message entitled “Remembering” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and place poppies at each of the crosses. An honor guard squad will be on hand to fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played.

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (612/970-7866) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans’ name and the number of persons attending.

From the day I returned from Iraq there has been a picture of Dale on my refrigerator. It is a picure of us having Christmas dinner in Kuwait. I was Dale's squadleader in Iraq and helped promote him to SSG. My 1-12 PLT was devistated to hear of his death as he spent two years in my Platoon. You are missed daily my friend.

I only knew Dale through my brother Stanley Hofferber now a Sergeant in the US ARMY. Dale must of been a wonderful man and to know that he served right next to my brother means a lot for Dale. Always doing the right thing. I am going back into the ARMY now and I am to be a Military Police Officer myself. I will serve 3 years more for not only myself and Sgt Hofferber but for Dale. I hope all is well and you all take care. God Bless.

I knew SSG Dale Panchot when we were both deployed to Kuwait in 2001. From what I got to know of him, he was not only a very committed soldier and NCO, but also a exceptional person. One day really sticks out when I gave him an I.V. in the back of my ambulance because he was getting dehydrated. I believe I even have a picture of him that I took of him eating an MRE at the back of my vehicle. I will try to find it for the family and post it on here.

Eulogy for a Veteran - author unknown

Do not stand at my grave and weep,

I am not there, I do not sleep.

I am a thousand winds that blow.

I am the diamond glints on snow.

I am the sunlight on ripened grain.

I am the Gentle autumn rain.

When you awaken in the mornings hush,

I am the swift uplifting rush

of quiet birds in circled flight,

I am the soft stars that shine at night.

Do not stand at my grave and cry,

I am not there, I did not die.

May God bless you and help you heal. Penny, proudArmymom of Chris
