Died: December 21, 2025
Dale Elwin Biggs, 81, of Dixon, passed away Sunday, December 21, 2025, at OSF Saint Katharine Medical Center in Dixon. He farmed in rural Dixon most of his life, raising corn, soybeans and cattle. In his early years of farming Dale sold Archer Oil and PAG seed. Dale worked at the Dixon Correctional Center from 1985-2007.
Dale was born, March 28, 1944, in Dixon, IL, the son of Francis and Ruth (Leach) Biggs. He was raised in rural Dixon. Dale went to Bend School 1st-6th grade, then to South Central School for grades 7th & 8th. Graduating from Dixon High School in 1962. He married Lavon Halbmaier on April 20, 1963 in Dixon. Dale was a member of Lee County Farm Bureau. He received the Future Farmers of America American Farmer Degree in 1965, served as President of Lee County Cattlemen Association and President of the Board of the Dixon Cooperative. He was a lifelong member of First Christian Church in Dixon from birth until his passing. Dale was baptized in 1956 at the age of 12. He served as a Deacon, Elder, on most committees and the Board Chairman, until his death. Dale had much love for his church, cattle, pets, but most of all for his family.
Dale is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lavon Biggs; two children, David (Marianne) Biggs, Diane Biggs; and one granddaughter, Molly Biggs.
Dale was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Beullah Belle Ganther.
A Visitation will be from 10:00 am until time of the Funeral Service at 11:00 am on Monday, December 29, 2025, at First Christian Church in Dixon, with Dr. Angelo Hill, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon, IL. A luncheon will follow at First Christian Church in Dixon.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to First Christian Church Disciples of Christ Dixon, IL 61021 and/or Lee County 4-H Foundation.
Arrangements were completed by Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon.

Sorry for your family's loss. It was in the early 60's ('62 or '63) that Dale's parents, Francis and Ruth were cleaning out their attic on Bend Road that they came across some antique papers related to my ancestors...including some civil war letters sent home from the war by my great grandfather Ernest Wernick. Francis was acquainted with my father Maurice Wernick and sent the Wernick papers to him. If it were not for the Brigg's family, these treasured paper items would have been lost to the ages.
