Dale Kraybill Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc. - Lowville on Jul. 5, 2024.
Glenfield, NY-Dale E. Kraybill, 70, of 7746 White Pine Lane, Glenfield, NY, passed away peacefully on hospice care at his home Wednesday evening, July 3, 2024. A lengthy battle with lung cancer began in 2016, followed by colon cancer, both of which he rose valiantly above. He succumbed to recent esophageal cancer after treatment in Florida and Watertown.
Calling hours will be from 12 PM to 2 PM on Saturday, July 13, 2024, at Iseneker Funeral Home, Lowville, with a funeral service to follow at 2 PM.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1pm until ? by the beach at his beloved Chase Lake home on Sunday, July 14, 2024. Dale treasured the camaraderie of the Chase Lake potluck gatherings. All who knew Dale are welcome to bring a dish to share, a beach chair, and of course, memories to share at this celebration.
Dale is survived by his wife of 46 years, Ann Meyer Kraybill; three sons, Ethan Kraybill and Carolyn (Philson) Kraybill with grandchildren Elise and Cole, all of Pittsford, NY; Jason Kraybill, of Rochester, NY; and Steve Kraybill, of Canandaigua, NY. He is also survived by his mother, Jean Kraybill; sisters Mary Jean Kraybill (Dan), Chicago, IL; Linda Histand (Jim), Goshen, IN; Karen Linn (Andy), Topeka, KS; and Carol Krehbiel, Cincinnati, OH. He was predeceased by his father, Paul Nissley Kraybill.
Dale was born March 13, 1954, in Lancaster, PA, the son of Paul Kraybill and Jean (Metz) Kraybill. He met Ann Meyer Kraybill at Goshen College and they were married in 1978 in Cleveland, Ohio. Dale was a history/Spanish major and spent a formative study year abroad at the University of Barcelona, Spain and a study/service semester in Costa Rica. He remained fluent in Spanish and enjoyed conversing with native speakers on many trips. He had a brilliant logical literary mind, sharp wit, and was a passionate storyteller with a commanding presence. He entered the construction field as a "trailer nailer" in Indiana. He moved to Denver, CO, working as a carpenter, then an iron-worker, moving quickly into project management with Denver Commercial Builders. He accepted a transfer to Overland Park, KS, with R.W. Murray Builders, and later a transfer to Northboro, MA. In 1988, he moved the family to Lowville, NY, where he found his niche in management at Purcell Construction, Watertown and was instrumental in establishing a second location in Richmond, VA, where he resided before becoming ill.
He deeply loved his family and friends. He was passionately devoted to his wife and together they built the life of their dreams. He was a guiding force in his son's lives, living by example a life of honesty and respect for his fellow man, with a gift of bringing people of diverse backgrounds together around good food, good conversation, and good music.

When I met the family, I didn't know I was going to marry into yet, Dale was so warm and kind. He told me, "you're next!" at his son's wedding. I said slow down partner, Im just the wedding date... He was right. I should have known after his intial bear hug upon meeting him for the first time. His love and joy spread to everyone. He was absolutely one of the best parts of joining this family. He became a true Uncle. I will miss him and his zest for living with joy dearly.
