Dale Dean Munger, 78, of Platte, SD passed away Tuesday, February 8, 2022 at Firesteel Healthcare Center in Mitchell, SD. Funeral Services are 1:00 PM Friday, February 11, 2022 at First Reformed Church in Platte. A Committal Service will follow at Dunlap Memorial Cemetery, rural Platte. Visitation will be held at the church from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM on Friday. Memorials in Dale's honor may be directed to: Dunlap Memorial Cemetery, C/O Clara Knutson, 1022 S. Dale Dean Munger was born on January 12, 1944 to William and Rose (Lomica) Munger in Mitchell, SD. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1962 and from Southern State Teachers College, Springfield, SD in 1963. Dale was united in marriage to Judy JoAnn VanderTuin on January 7, 1966 at the New Holland Christian Reformed Church. Together, they made the family farm north of Platte their home. Dale was a lifelong farmer and was also employed by Dakota Manufacturing in Platte from 1996 - 2015.
Dale was a member of the First Reformed Church in Platte, served as the little league coach for the Torrey Lake baseball team, enjoyed taking WNAX baseball trips, hunting, fishing, playing cards, bowling and woodworking. He especially loved attending his children's sporting events.
Grateful for having shared in Dale's life, his four children and five grandchildren: Michael Munger of Platte, SD, Marshall and Vanessa Munger of Pukwana, SD - Dawson and Dakota, Heidi and Kevin Mendenhall of Mitchell, SD – Hannah and Gavin, and Gretchen Munger of Mitchell, SD - Presley; two sisters-in-law: Janet Beukelman and Clara Knutson; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
Dale was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Munger (Aug. 17, 2010); his parents, William and Rose Munger; two brothers: Wilbur Munger and Eugene Munger; a sister, Doris Falor; parents-in-law, Albert and Sadie VanderTuin; and a brother-in-law, Marlin John VanderTuin.
