Chester “Dale” West, 77, of Pampa, passed away on September 27, 2023 in Canadian.

Services will be 2:00 PM Monday, October 2, 2023 at First Methodist Church of Pampa with his son, Kurt West, officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery with Rance Young, of Silverton, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmichael-Whatley Funeral Directors and Crematory.

Dale was born on March 23, 1946, in Floydada, Texas to John Key and Madge West. He attended Floydada High School and graduated in 1964. After graduation, he attended West Texas State University for one year. He came home to farm and ranch north of Floydada. Dale married Bobbie Jane Reue on October 21, 1967. He went to work at Farm Bureau and moved to Denton, Petersburg, Plains and eventually Pampa. Dale eventually spent a couple of years auctioneering before going to work for Culberson Stowers and then Doug Boyd Motors. In 2009, he went into business for himself with Dale’s Turf and Weed spraying business and added tree trimming service later. Dale grew up on a farm as the youngest of four siblings, so he learned from an early age how to stay out of trouble. He may have been just as ornery as Johnny and Winfred, but he figured out how not to get caught.  Dale raised his children, Sonya, Christa, and Kurt, as Kurt put it, like a child himself. He bought Kurt his first motorcycle at the age of four and the toys got bigger from there. Every family member had a three-wheeler of their own to ride on the sand dunes of Oklahoma. Dune buggies came next to haul behind the green, ugly RV to Lake City, Colorado Springs, and Fun Valley. There were so many wonderful, memorable family vacations to fish and have fun in cool Colorado.

Dale loved to hunt and the JK Ranch at Silverton was his favorite place. This love of all things hunting has been passed onto Kurt and his wife Jill and now to his grandchildren. Many Thanksgiving feasts were celebrated in Silverton to make the most of the hunting season. Dale had so many hobbies over the years- model airplanes, raising birds, motorcycles- and all were done with wholehearted passion. The greatest passion was his children and his grandchildren. He rarely missed a game or event, and you knew he was there by the support, or yelling, from the bleachers. But the absolute most important passion was his love for Christ. Dale served the Lord through preaching at church, prison ministry, or sharing His love with anyone and everyone he met. “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Dale was preceded in death by his daughter, Sonya Ranee West; his parents, John Key and Madge West; and two brothers, Winfred and Johnny West.

He is survived by his wife, Bobbie West; his son, Kurt West and wife Jill of Pampa; daughter, Christa Perry of Canadian; grandchildren, Paige Ranee Perry and fiancé Zaine Varnell of Kingfisher, OK, Ashley Nicole Perry, John Kristian, Samantha Ranee, Joshua Ryan and Hope Lynn West; sister, Ann Bean of Lubbock; and nieces, Carla Davis, Sue Diane Morton, Lisa Cagle, and Jonna McNeill.

Memorials may be given in memory of Dale to First Methodist Church  of Pampa or to Hemphill County Hospice.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 5:00-6:30 PM.
