Dallas Dickerhoff: A True Son of the Florida Woods

Dallas Dickerhoff, a lifelong steward of Central Florida, passed away on March 17, 2026. Born on November 14, 1936, in Forest City, FL, Dallas was shaped by the rugged landscape of early Florida, and a Mother and Father (Blanche and Dallas Clyde) who were true pioneers that settled his family in a place that fueled a lifelong devotion to nature and a "get it done" work ethic. As a boy - Dallas had pet squirrels, fished the wild lakes, caught gators, and roamed the woods like a character from "The Land Remembered" or a Mark Twain novel - dressed in overalls with cane pole and frogs in pocket!

In 1972, Dallas moved to DeLand, where he spent the next 50+ years building a legacy of community and kinship. A farmer at heart, he spent 60 years in the poultry industry, managing everything from commercial egg operations to his own chicken farms. He was a leader who led from the trenches; no task was too small, and no job was left unfinished.

To those who knew him, Dallas was a "man’s man" who lived by a simple code: family first, himself second. He was the man you called at midnight for a ride, a leaky roof, or a broken-down car. He never sought hobbies because his joy was found spending time with his wife Myrna, and with his Children and Grandchildren. He was most at home in the woods, and on his land - feeding the birds, squirrels, peacocks, bear and deer that roamed his backyard. Whether wrangling snakes and gators, or managing complex agricultural operations, he moved through the world with a quiet strength and a rare, authentic grace. Dallas had an easy laugh, and a “howdy-howdy” for everyone he met, and he never missed an opportunity to tell a joke, take a jab at himself, or encourage someone to have a better day. When asked how his day was going - he said “Couldn’t be better”, and when asked how he was feeling…the answer was “Just Right!”, and when asked if he would help….”Absolutely” was the response. They don’t come along like Dallas very often - consider yourself lucky if you knew him.

Dallas is preceded in death by his children, Floyd Dickerhoff and Tammi Dickerhoff. His legacy of strength lives on through his wife, Myrna Rogers, and a large, devoted family. He is survived by his children: Leon Spradling (Rose), Terri Dickerhoff, and Tracy Dickerhoff (Aimee). He is also survived by Myrna’s children: Rick Kopitzke, Rob Kopitzke, and Karman Cates. Dallas’s impact spans generations, leaving behind a host of grandchildren: Michelle Hannah, Doug Richards, Dallas-Ann Dickerhoff, Kayle Woods, Alexander Maple, Meagan Harmon, Savannah McMennamy, Dylan and Sienna Kopitzke, Megan and Emma Cates, and Landen, Noah, Jacob, Micah, and Keegan Dickerhoff. He also leaves behind over 25 great-grandchildren who will grow up hearing stories of a man the likes of whom the world will not likely see again.
