Dalton Royce Dueitt, age 83, of Sherman, Texas, passed away on November 20, 2025 at 7:43 PM at his home in Sherman, Texas.
He was born on December 4, 1941, in Washington County, Alabama, to Jesse Dueitt and Blonnie Mae McIntyre Dueitt. Dalton was the fifth of eight children raised on a modest family farm. His childhood home, a classic Barndominium, witnessed his transformation from the affectionately nicknamed "Chubby" to a young man known as DR
and Bear. Despite the hardships of growing up without electricity or running water until 1948, Dalton's early years were filled with resilience, laughter, and the warmth of family. Special occasions were quietly celebrated, teaching him the value of gratitude and togetherness over material things.
Dalton's roots in Washington County, Alabama, shaped his strong sense of responsibility and care for others. He kept a watchful eye on his siblings, making sure they were safe and supported throughout the years. Known for his mischievous spirit and love of music, Dalton's sense of humor brought joy to those around him, a trait he carried throughout his life.
From an early age, Dalton embraced the demands of rural life, helping cultivate watermelons, cotton, and turpentine. Every member of the Dueitt family played a vital role, and Dalton's daily chores before and after school instilled in him a tireless work ethic and deep loyalty and values he later passed on to his own children.
Dalton was a proud graduate of a sixteen-member high school class, alongside his brother James. After earning his diploma in 1958 and completing railroad school, he moved to Chicago, Illinois, where he met Jacqueline Wolf-Dueitt. The couple married in Elgin, Illinois, in 1964, and this past February, they celebrated 61 years of marriage, a testament to their enduring partnership.
Dalton and Jacqueline eventually returned to the South, where Dalton spent over 37 years as a shipfitter and supervisor at Ingalls Shipbuilding, retiring in 2002. They remained in Pascagoula, Mississippi, until 2022, after which they settled in Texas to be closer to their children. Dalton's final years were spent surrounded by loved ones.
In his free time, Dalton enjoyed fishing, deer and hog hunting, bike riding, visiting casinos, solving puzzles, and embracing the peacefulness of country life. His legacy lives on through his family, who remember his unwavering dedication, humor, and love.
Dalton Royce Dueitt will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved him. He was a beloved husband, father, and friend, who passed away peacefully after a life marked by hard work, devotion to family, and a love for the simple joys of country living.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse Dueitt and Blonnie May McIntyre Dueitt; brothers, Owen Dueitt, Hayward Dueitt, William "Wig" Dueitt, James Dueitt, and Russel Dueitt; son, Anthony David Dueitt Powers.
