Damon is survived by his wife, Stephanie Herbert; his children, Chloe and Owen Herbert; his mother and stepfather, Darlene and Jim Del Vecchio; his half-sister Anna Hogue; several nieces and nephews, all of Amarillo; and his step-brother Paul Del Vecchio of St. Paul Minnesota.
A celebration of Damon's life will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, July 21, 2023, at Country Home Weddings, 24900 S. Soncy Rd., Canyon, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Damon was born November 30, 1976, to Damon and Darlene Herbert in Pasadena, Texas. Damon was a good kid with a strong-willed heart. He spent much of his youth rebelling and searching for belonging, and his early adult years were rife with violence and conflicts with the law until he found peace and love through his faith in Christ.
He attended Inver Hills Community College in Minnesota where he completed an associates of arts in political science and graduated with honors.
Damon had many jobs, all of which he excelled at, including bus boy, roof salesman, laundry deliverer, bar tender, and insulator technician. In 2002, he joined his step-dad in forming Asset Protection Unit (APU) out of the basement of their home. He worked every position within the company in its early years, and eventually served as vice president and ultimately its CEO. Since its inception, APU was one of Damon's strongest passions, and he strove tirelessly for its growth, sacrificed much for its success, and cared deeply about his employees and how his every decision would affect them. He was an exceptional businessman and leader.
Damon was baptized as a Christian in 2005. He loved God fiercely and drastically changed his life because of his faith. He was a member of San Jacinto Church of Christ from 2005-2006 then Central Church of Christ from to 2006-2020. There he forged relationships that shaped his life and character. He served in many capacities over the years, ranging from ministering to high school students to visiting inmates; his love and care for others was known and felt by many.
Damon met Stephanie Suarez, at Central in September 2010, and they were married on January 28, 2012. Damon and Stephanie went on to have two children, Chloe and Owen. These relationships further formed Damon, and he became a tender man with his wife and children; Damon loved them deeply and was their north star for as long as he lived. He made them laugh and brought them joy he didn't know he possessed. He often said, "I never thought I would live this long" and was ever grateful for the second chance he got at life.
The one thing he enjoyed almost as much as his family was riding his motorcycle. He yearned for the rush and adventure that awaited on the road, and rode all across the Continental United States, through Canada and Alaska – in every type of weather and through every season. He loved searching for the most beautiful places and the loneliest, curviest roads he could find.
Damon had few close friends, but those of us who knew his life and heart best knew him as a generous man, a passionate thinker and communicator, and a fierce friend full of life, kindness, and hope; he will be missed.
Memorial gifts can be sent to Christian Relief Fund, and Christ Prison Fellowship c/o Comanche Trail Church of Christ
