Dan Anderson, of Dawsonville, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away Thursday, November 6, 2025 at the age of 91 following an extended illness.
He was born March 14, 1934 in Gainesville, GA to the late Lee and Linda Anderson of Dawsonville. When Dan was a teenager he accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized in the Shoal Hole Creek. While raising his three daughters, Dan always insisted that they attend Sunday School and church every single Sunday. Today they are very thankful for their dad's Christian guidance.
Later on in life he became an avid golfer and a passionate Georgia Bulldog fan. He loved being with friends and entertaining them and his family with funny jokes! In 1954, Dan was drafted into the U. S. Army and served two years. His tour included 18 months in Italy with the Military Police. He then returned home to continue his education. He attended the University of Georgia and graduated with honors in 1959 with a BS Degree in poultry. Dan then went to work for Gold Kist Poultry. During his 37 years with Gold Kist, his work carried him to Alabama, Florida, and Georgia. Dan and his family lived in Live Oak, Florida for 20 years, where he was manager of the Gold Kist Poultry Division. In 1978, Dan was honored by the Florida Poultry Federation as "Man Of The Year". In 1991, he moved to Carrolton, Georgia where he managed the Gold Kist Poultry Division until his retirement in 1996. In 2000, he returned to his hometown of Dawsonville and became an active member of the Bethel Methodist Church. Dan's kindness, love, and unwavering devotion to his family and friends will forever remain in the hearts of those who were blessed to know him.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Anderson, and grandson, Austin Royal.
He is survived by his dedicated and loving wife of 71 years, Vanita Cummings Anderson; daughters, Dana Carpenter (Rod) of Pace Florida, Terri Royal (Warren) of Cumming, Denise "Dede" Rissler of Gainesville; his sister, Betty Love of Dawsonville; his brother, Gene Anderson of Dawsonville; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 13, 2025 at 2 o'clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Jamey Prickett will officiate. Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 13 from 12:30 until 2.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Dawson County Humane Society, 633 Martin Road, Dawsonville, GA 30534.
