Daniel Kellerman was born on September 30, 1948, in Covington, KY, and passed away on January 9, 2025, at the VA hospital in Iowa City. Dan's life was a testament to love, loyalty, and caring spirit that left an impression on everyone he met.
Dan attended St. Henry Elementary and High School in Erlanger, KY, where he discovered his love for golf, playing on the school's golf team. After high school, he enlisted in the Air Force in 1967, serving courageously in Vietnam, including during both Tet Offensives. Upon returning, he resumed work at his favorite place, the grocery store, where his "contagious smile" caught the attention of Chris Huffman. They married on November 17, 1973, and shared over 51 beautiful years together.
Dan's career journey was as vibrant as his personality. After a brief stint as an undercover department store cop, he joined the security team at the Cincinnati Veteran's Affairs (VA) hospital. While working there, he pursued higher education at Thomas More College in Villa Hills, KY, graduating in 1981. During this time, he and Chris expanded their family with the birth of their oldest child, Erin, followed the next year by the birth of their first son, Justin. In 1982, they welcomed their second son, Matthew, and soon moved to Sunderland, Massachusetts, following a career promotion. Another promotion took the family to New Orleans, where their youngest daughter, Annie, was born.
In the early 80s, Dan's career continued to thrive, leading to a promotion as Chief of Supply at the Iowa City VA. Over the next 17 years, Dan's dedication and hard work culminated in his role as Chief of Operations, from which he retired in 2002.
Retirement allowed Dan to fully immerse himself in his passions: family and golf. A long-time member of the Iowa City Elks Club since 1987, Dan was known for his exceptional golfing skills and the joy he brought to the course. He cherished the camaraderie and lifelong friendships he built on the fairways. His family remained his greatest treasure, a constant source of pride and joy.
Daniel Kellerman was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He was funny, loyal, and had a contagious laugh that could light up any room. His presence was a gift to everyone who knew him.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Jean Kellerman and brothers Mike and John. He is survived by his loving wife, Chris; his children, Erin Kellerman of Iowa City, IA, Justin Kellerman (Jenn & Julie) of Colorado Springs, CO, Matthew Kellerman (Melissa) of Simsbury, CT, and Annie Alvis (Bret) of Nashville, TN; and eight grandchildren: Dillon, Kiersten, Jackson, Max, Grady, Gianni, Amari, and Maddie; and siblings Kathy Drews, Sandy Domsher, Tim Kellerman (Nancy), Dave Kellerman, Jeff Kellerman (Cathy), Beth Kellerman, and Tom Kellerman (Marianne). He will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the honor of knowing him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 14, at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City and a celebration of Dan's life from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 14, at the Elks Club in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Kellerman Family, in care of Chris, to create a memorial for Dan at the Elks Club in Iowa City.
Online condolences and memories may be shared on Dan's Tribute Wall.
