Dan Ring

June 2, 1958 – Feb. 21, 2026

HARTFORD CITY, IN-- Dan Ring, 67, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2026 at his home, after life-long complications from diabetes.

Born in Marion, on Monday June 2, 1958, the fifth of six children born to the now late Walter Richard Ring, Sr and Phyllis Ann (Bradbury) Ring. He was a life resident of this area and formerly worked for Overhead Door of Hartford City and Pierce Governor of Upland.

Dan was an outdoorsman, known for hunting, especially pheasant. He had various memberships in area hunting & fishing clubs, as well as a boat club in Ohio.

Dan was also a breeder of, and raised Brittany Spaniels, belonging to a Brittany Club as well.

He will be sadly missed by his twin sons, Derek and Daniel Ring; Granddaughter, McKenna Boughman; two grandsons: Tyler Richard Ring and Jordan Kane Ring. Three brothers; Robert (Judy) Ring, Jerry (Diana) Ring and Thomas Ring. His sister, Cheryl Ring and sister-in-law, Annie Ring, along with a host of nieces and nephews and his best friend Paul Timmons.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Walter Richard Ring, Jr. and a sister-in law, Kendra Ring.

Private viewing and services for the family were held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at Waters Funeral Home. Burial locally, at Greenlawn Cemetery, East of Hartford City, followed afterwards.

Dan's Eulogy, authored by his son Derek and read by Rev. Tim Wallace, Friday afternoon:

We are here to celebrate the life of Dan Ring. A man whose heart was always out in the field. But you can't talk about Dan without talking about his dogs. He used to say, "that the only, truly unconditional love a human gets, is from a bird dog."

They were his partners, his friends and his quiet confidants. He loved the morning when the air was cold; the vest was packed and the dogs were shivering with anticipation. He didn't just hunt birds; he shared a life with them, along with his dogs.

Dan taught us to slow down, to listen to the woods and to appreciate the simple joy of a dog-on-point. He was patient, kind, stubborn, but beyond all that, he was a devoted father to his boys: Daniel and Derek. A loving grandpa to Tyler and Jordan, and a loving master to Moe and Flash. He loved all his boys.

Dan was a family man. He adored his parents and was a dedicated son to Phyllis and Walter Ring. He was always there for his parents and made sure to take care of Phyllis after Walter's passing. He was their rock, their caregiver and their closest companion.

His unwavering dedication to his parents, set an example to his sons, of what wholehearted, true devotion looks like.
