Danny “Boone” Stetson Danny “Boone” Stetson, age 76, died on January 24, 2024 at Monument Health, Rapid City, SD. He was born in Crawford, Nebraska on September 23, 1947, the second of six brothers, to Cleo and Wanda (Christensen) Stetson. Danny graduated from Crawford High School in 1966. He served in the U.S. Army from 1967 to 1969. Danny held several jobs throughout his life, retiring from a 30 plus year career with Harris Sales, where he was commonly known as “Dan the Bread Man.” Danny married Gayle (Douthit) Stetson on August 22, 1971. He enjoyed playing golf, especially with his kids. Wednesdays were spent golfing in the Men’s League at the Ridgeview Country Club. He enjoyed visits to the casino, although his luck usually ran cold! He loved drinking coffee with his “coffee buddies” where they shared the local “news” with each other. He took great pleasure in rolling dice at coffee and at the golf course where he usually found himself on the winning side! Family get-togethers found Danny and his five brothers playing Pinochle together. Danny was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Rick and Dr. William Stetson, brothers-in-law, Melvin and Gaylen Douthit, and daughter-in-law, Stephanie Stetson. Danny is survived by his wife Gayle Stetson, his son Matt (Hannah) Stetson of North Platte and daughter Nikki (Greg) Krotz of Chadron. He is also survived by his step-grandson, Isaiah Keepes of Belton, Missouri, brothers Kenny and Brad Stetson of Chadron and Duane (Jeanine) Stetson of Omaha, sisters-in-law, Sandy Stetson and Anna Stetson of Chadron, Norma Cozad of Wood Lake, Shirley Douthit of Crawford, Lois Douthit of Fort Collins, and brother-in-law, Lonnie (Verona) Douthit of Crawford. Danny is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visitation for Danny will be held at the Chamberlain Chapel in Chadron, NE on Monday, January 29th from 5-7 PM. A celebration of life will be held at Chamberlain Chapel on Tuesday, January 30th at 10 AM with Russ Seger officiating. Interment will follow in the Crawford Cemetery. Those who wish to remember Danny in a special way may make gifts in his memory to the Chadron Circle of Light.
