Dan Lewis Walker (65), a longtime resident of
St. Maries, Idaho, passed away unexpectedly on March 12, 2026, as the result of an automobile accident.
Dan was born on August 27, 1960, in
Seattle, Washington, to Lewis and Joanne Walker. He spent much of his childhood in St. Maries, where he attended school before moving to Seattle during his high school years to live with his grandparents. There, he completed his education through Penn Foster High School Diploma Program.
Dan was a hardworking man who took pride in providing for himself and his family. Over the years, he held a variety of jobs that reflected both his strong work ethic and his natural mechanical ability. He worked at a junkyard in Federal Way, Washington, where he drove tow truck-a job perfectly suited to his knack for understanding how things worked. He also spent time with the Union Pacific Railroad, worked in the insulated window industry, and experienced life at sea crabbing aboard the Aleutian Lady, a vessel recognized from the television series The Deadliest Catch. Unfortunately, a series of on-the-job injuries eventually left Dan disabled and unable to continue working.
On March 8, 1982, Dan married Anne Sullivan and welcomed his daughter, Roberta. The family made their home in Tukwila, Washington, where he built a life centered on hard work and family. After 20 years of marriage, the couple later divorced.
In 2005, Dan returned home to St. Maries, where he remained rooted for the rest of his life. He spent some time working with Wanted Auto Sales in Worley, Idaho, doing what he enjoyed-being around vehicles and people. In 2014, Dan met Inka-Christine Nyman, and the two were married on March 1, 2016. Together they built a life filled with adventure, moving throughout the St. Maries and Plummer areas, spending time in Moscow, and eventually settling back in St. Maries where they made their permanent home.
Dan had a deep love for the outdoors and for life's simple pleasures. He enjoyed camping, fishing, hunting, and gold panning, always happiest when surrounded by nature. He especially loved a good fire-whether it was a quiet evening or a large gathering, Dan could often be found tending a roaring bonfire, bringing people together to share stories, laughter, and marshmallows under the open sky.
A true car enthusiast, Dan had a passion for collecting and working on vehicles. At one point, he owned a prized ragtop Oldsmobile and a 442-cars he was especially proud of. He loved speed, racing, and spending time at the track. Gifted with an intuitive mechanical mind, Dan could often diagnose an engine's problem simply by listening to it. His tools and projects became part of who he was, and he took great pride in them.
More than anything, Dan will be remembered for his willingness to help others. If someone needed a hand, Dan was there-no questions asked. His generosity, loyalty, and quiet strength made a lasting impression on all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Inka, at their home near St. Maries; his children, Roberta Bruch of Newport, Washington, Nicolas Zumwalt and Micheal Nyman of
St. Maries, Idaho, Kristofer Sorenson of Moscow, Idaho, and Eric-Ensio Nyman of North Carolina; his brothers, Scott Walker (Juliana Nacarino) of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, Dean Walker of Oakesdale, Washington, and John Walker (Lindsey Holland) of Oakesdale, Washington; and his cherished grandchildren, Scarlett, Liliana, and Jensen. He also leaves behind numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A graveside service will be held on March 27, 2026 at 11:00 am with a potluck gathering held at the Eagles Lodge in
Saint Maries, Idaho.
