Dana Jay DeVries, age 64, passed away on February 22, 2026, following a car accident while traveling home from Florida.
He was born on October 20, 1961, in Valley City, North Dakota, to Sally Lee Viola DeVries and Duane DeVries.
Dana was known for his kindness, humor, strong work ethic, and generosity. He spent much of his life working in construction, where he took great pride in his craftsmanship.
After graduating from Burnsville High School in 1979, Dana spent a couple of years working on tugboats in Louisiana. He later returned to Minnesota, where he met and fell in love with Cheryl DeVries. They were married on September 21, 1985, and later adopted their daughter, Audrey, in 1992. The family made their home in Lakeville, where many simple but meaningful days were spent outside together in the yard-often cleaning up sticks and enjoying time by the fire.
Outside of work, Dana enjoyed hunting, fishing, collecting knives, and spending time with family. Those who knew him will remember his quick wit, his easy conversation, and the way he could leave people smiling after even a brief interaction.
Dana is survived by his former spouse, Cheryl DeVries; his daughter, Audrey Bennett; his siblings, Deb (Jack) Denny and Scott (Lisa) DeVries; and many nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him deeply. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, April 24, 2026, from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the American Legion in Apple Valley (Post 1776).
14521 Granada Drive
Apple Valley, MN 55124
The family will be serving a light dinner and non-alcoholic beverages. All are welcome to come, share memories, and celebrate Dana's life.
