Portland – Dana H. Mains, 68, of Standish, passed away on February 15, 2026, at Maine Medical Center, after a long illness. He was born on March 6, 1957, the son of Ed and Mavis (Steeves) Mains.
Dana was a 5th generation butcher; He worked at a few small butcher shops in his early adult years. Later he went to work for S. D. Warren Company. In 1996 upon leaving the mill, he started Windham Butcher Shop. He built the business into a thriving company. Dana was also a truck driver. He had a real love for Peterbilt’s. In the early 2000’s he started a trucking company and split his time between the two businesses.
Every fall for over 30 years Dana brought a crew to Greenville and Ashland to process moose. During those years they did Thousands of moose for the hunters.
In 2011 Dana and his wife Tracey opened Rustlers Steakhouse, in Windham. They owned the restaurant until 2016. Soon after that they decided it was time to retire. He and Tracey wintered in Florida. In recent years they decided to buy a fifth wheel camper and travel the country. They got to see the Redwood trees in California which was one of his “bucket list items”.
Dana enjoyed hunting, traveling, and weekends at the Jackman house, and spending time with family and all the grandkids and great grandkids. He also spent some years racing at Beech Ridge.
Dana will be remembered for his sense of humor and his quick comebacks. Everyone that knew him has a funny story that probably leaned toward inappropriate. He loved to make people laugh.
Dana is survived by his wife Tracey, a son Dana and his partner Julie Sabasteanski, a daughter Toni Stanwood (Shay), he was a wonderful stepfather to Seth Littlefield (Hillary), Brett Littlefield (Elena), Chad Flint (Kristina), Kyle Flint (Kassi), and Dean Flint (Melissa), brother Eddie (Kathy), sister Tammy Fardon (Mike), brother Dale (Maureen, He was very close to his nephew Mark Moon (Hayley), and several nieces and nephews. He was “papa” to Kyle, Cody, Nick, Deekon, Shaylee, Bennett, Sadie, Vivien, Anthony, Fletcher, Sullivan, Bradley, Madison, Mason, and Kayden. He was predeceased by his parents and a sister Patricia Sutherland.
There will be a celebration of life on March 3, 2026, at Keeley’s Banquet Center 178 Warren Ave, Portland, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM. Please bring all of your stories to share.
