Baal, age 94 Address: 5009 Sherrill Rd, Sherrill, IA Time, day and date of death: 12:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 8, 2011 Place and cause of death: at home of natural causes Services: Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, at the UCC Church in Sherrill, IA. Burial: Burial will be at Sherrill UCC Cemetery. Visitation: To celebrate Dan's life friends may call from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday at Behr's Funeral Home. Date/Place of Birth: Dan was born November 29, 1916 in Sherrill, IA, son of Charles and Anna (Spoerl) Baal. Brief personal history: Dan was a life long resistant of Sherrill, IA. Dan learned from his father the blacksmithing trade. He began working with his father in 1930. He was a blacksmith and could fix anything that came into his door or driveway. Dan married Martha O'Neal on June 9, 1990 in Dubuque, she preceded him in death in 1997. Dan enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, especially his friend Ruth Beddow for the last 12 years. He loved being out in the timber chopping and stacking wood. Dan enjoyed his flowers and tomato plants around the house and garage. He was a lifelong member of Sherrill UCC Church. His love and respect to others reflected his deep commitment to the Lord. All of his life he was surrounded by his friends, he will be missed by all. Survivors: His son: Daniel Baal II, Ozark, AR 3 nieces: Doris (Barron) Katchka, Dubuque, IA Genevieve (David) Robinson, Harrison, MI Verena Love, Waterford, MI Nephew: David (Judy) Baal, Prescott, AZ Preceded in death: He was preceded in death by a brother Alvin Baal, his wife Martha, and a nephew Richard Baal. Memorials: A Daniel Baal memorial fund as been established. Thank you: The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses and staff of Hospice of Dubuque, Dr. Khatib and Dr. Ringold.
