I've know Dan and his family it seems my whole life. We were neighbors, friends, graduated together, played touch football with all the other neighbor kids, trick or treated together. I haven't seen Dan in many years but still see his family members. Dan will be missed by all that knew and loved him. I believe he is in a better place. RIP

Thus is so heartbreaking. On the few occasions that our paths crossed it was always great times. One memory that sticks out in my head is you and Uncle Alton wrestling in the back yard of our house at one of the grad parties. Your courage and enthusiasm for life is intoxicating and you will be forever missed. Thoughts and prayers always . Rest peacefully cuz!

I enjoyed my time with Daniel. He was easy to know and seemed to always be at peace with himself and to care about everyone.
I pray for his family and hope they will know how honored we are to have known Dan.
God bless you and help you to heal.

We met Daniel shortly after he came to live in Virginia. I got to know him better when we helped at a local plant shop. We often saw him about the neighborhood, at auctions, the mall, yard sales and most recently, we did some sales and projects together. If you lived anywhere around Daniel, you were sure to meet him. He liked being outside and being active.
Thinking of Dan this past week, I recalled a verse that I like. It says,"Live, so that when you are gone, it will have mattered that you were here". I think Daniel did that as well as anyone I know.
Many people believe that we don't get here by accident but with a certain mission; something we are to learn,or to do or, perhaps, help someone else with. Regardless of our station in life, there is a common thread that runs through all of our tasks. It is that we are here to demonstrate love. And everyone knows how well Daniel did that. Daniel's kindness seemed to come effortlessly from within.
We were at a cook out that he and Vicky had not long ago. As we were all letting dinner settle, I noticed Dan was very quiet. I went over and told him how nice he had things looking and what a wonderful job he had done landscaping. He immediately sprang to life and the tour was on. We looked at the front of the yard and rounded the house where he showed me improvements he had made and flowers he had brought in. We ended up on a hill where Dan proudly pointed out what he had done and his plans. I had a broken arm and the insects were very active but I was having a great time. Dan's enthusiasm was contagious and it was clear he liked to be creative and to see things develop and grow. Clearly, he loved to nurture and not just plants.
I know all who knew Dan will miss him. He was a rare combination of fine qualities and he seemed to live to love and be loved.
I am certain that whatever his mission here was, he fulfilled it.
We are pleased to have shared this space with him.
