I just learned of Dr. Caplan's death after finding his business card among some items. He was a blessing to our family, working tirelessley to determine what was making our your son sick. He was gentle, caring and thought of everything when he told us of the diagnosis of a rare blood disease. He came the day our son passed at Eggleston to be with us. He and Connie were always there with answers and support. Thank you and we have lost a great man.

I'm just finding out about Dr. Caplan. My daughters were patients at the CG Clinic. My oldest daughter is a Traveling RN . She has collected turtles from various places to give to him. We came by the CF clinic a few years ago to surprise him and give him the turtles, but he was not there. We loved him and he was a dedicated doctor who loved his patients and his work. He will be missed.

So sorry to hear of Dr Caplan´s passing. I credit him for literally saving my young son´s life 40 years ago while he was a patient at Egleston. He was his physician for many years treating his Crohns Disease. He and his entire team and hospital staff were so kind to my son and helped me tremendously navigate the healthcare challenges he faced and still faces to this day. He is greatly missed.

I am just now finding out about his passing. Dr. Turtle(Caplan) was such a vital piece of my childhood. He was my doctor for 10 years(until I was undiagnosed with CF(long story)). He took care of me and my family during those years. I still think about him even 14 years after I was his patient. My condolences to his family.

I am just now learning of Dr. Caplan's passing. I am sitting here at work almost in tears. He was my doctor for 12 years. Dr. Caplan was more than a doctor for me, he was like a grandfather to me. The kindest, most gentle, caring doctor I have ever had. I will never forget him and still remember the things he taught me. My dad and I always enjoyed our time with him. He made going to the doctor much easier and less scary.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. I am very saddened I didn't get to see him one last time.

Dr Caplan was my Dr for 10 years. I was diagnosed with Crohn's disease at 14 and was privileged to have him as my Dr. I truly believe that without him I would not be.here. At 14 he treated me as an adult, he took great length to make sure I understood about my disease. He will be greatly missed

It is with profound sadness Im reading of Dr. Dan Caplans passing. My deepest condolences to Connie, his family, and his numerous colleagues and friends at Emory. Dan was a rare physician excellent and dedicated, yet so caring, compassionate, accessible and generous with enlightening and advising, both to his patients and colleagues. I am a Registered Dietitian who worked with many of his CF patients as well as FTT, and other children who needed nutrition support. He was an excellent medical director of our Nutrition Support Team and he always appreciated and promoted dietitians for which I was so grateful for. He was an exceptional doctor, for sure, but also an amazing person who inspired me greatly and I will never forget him.

I worked at a physical therapy clinic with Dr. Caplan as a patient. We hit it off instantly and became friends, arranging to meet for lunches and texting regularly :) My mother is a liver disease patient, and he would be so patient with me helping me to interpret medical jargon and lab values. He was truly a gem.
He was sweet and kind, and I know what a difference he made in the lives of his patients!

Dr. Caplan cared for my little sister, Robin Sweezey, for the 21 years she battled cystic fibrosis, dying at the advanced age of 40 in 1996. Our family could not possibly love and admire him more. I have only now learned of his passing, and it is as sad to me now as it would have been had I known it at the time. I am sorry I was not able to attend his service. Dr. Caplan's love, dedication, and sincerity will remain in my heart as long as I live. There may have been finer men, but not many.

I worked with Dr. Caplan at Egleston and I'm sorry to learn of his passing. He was very dedicated and caring, and was always polite. When we transitioned to an electronic medical record, he still preferred his paper lab reports, which we were happy to provide. He would carry the reports on his hospital rounds.

As a biliary atresia patient, I always looked forward to seeing Dr. Caplan as a child. I'll always remember him making me laugh and feel comfortable going in for my routine checkups. His bedside manner still inspires me today as an RN and an SRNA. I can only hope to make my patients feel as comfortable as I did with Dr. Caplan.

Dr. C and my daughter, Kelly at our home. He came to see her the day before she died of Cystic Fibrosis at 23 years old. He came back the next day and was sitting at the end of her bed with me and Kelly's brother and our friends when she died. I rem

Dr. Caplan was small in stature but a giant in the CF community. He treated all the CF "kids" like they were his family. I say kids because many made it well into adulthood because of the care provided by Dr. Caplan. I have two memories of Dr. C - driving his green car that the CF nurses called the "mucous mobile" and Dr. C sitting on the edge of the bed with our daughter Heather just hanging out. He might even have stolen a french fry from her plate! We'll miss Dr. C here on earth but all his CF kids are welcoming him in Heaven with a joyous party. Well done good and faithful servant.

As I view the service on-line I reflect on how nice Dr Caplan was when my Orchestra students performed for "family Ed Day" during his tenure at the CF Center. I remember one of my students had to bring her little brother who had a little too much excitement and he went over to check on him to see if he was okay. Dr Caplan checked on him the entire time we were there. Such a beautiful soul. I came to know him through my sister who worked with him at the CF Center.

Dr. Caplan will never be forgotten by our family. He diagnosed our son, Nick at 3 months but gave us hope for a future. Nick is still going strong 31 years later because of the fantastic care he received from Dr. Caplan and his team. He would listen to our concerns and help us through the hard times. Thank you for being there for us and all of your patients.
