Daniel Colin Obituary

Daniel was a devoted husband to Franky, and together they shared their lives with two beloved fur babies, Spanky and Nemi. He was the son of Virginia Colin (with help from stepdad Mike Richey); a brother to Julia, our other Daniel, David, Michelle, and Rebecca; and an uncle to Alex, Emily, and Andrew. To his family, Daniel was a steady presence—someone who could always be counted on, whether for a listening ear, a word of advice, or a companionable moment of commiseration.

Daniel was a man of many facets. He was intelligent and witty, with a sharp mind that could analyze any situation. A mentor to those fortunate enough to learn from him and a hero to his siblings, he was always eager to share his insights and experiences to lift up those around him. Ambitious and diligent, Daniel poured himself into his work, spending decades in the catering industry where his dedication and attention to detail were second to none. He always strove to bring out the best in both himself and those around him.

He approached life with a sense of realism and practicality, with a strategic mind that loved solving complex problems and a fascination with the psychology of people, constantly observing and learning about what made others tick. While he had the rare ability to make anyone feel comfortable in his presence, he was, at his core, a homebody who often preferred the quiet of his own company. Daniel had an appreciation for games, whether it was poker, Magic: The Gathering, or an ongoing prank or trick—his competitive spirit and strategic thinking were always on full display. A dedicated fan of hockey, especially the Capitals, Daniel found joy in playing the game all his life.

Daniel lived life on his own terms—at his own pace and in his own way. He was capable of great things, and though his time with us was far too short, his influence will continue to ripple through the lives he touched. Today, we celebrate his life—the laughter, the love, the challenges, and the wisdom he gave so freely.

Though Daniel may no longer be with us physically, his legacy endures in each person who had the privilege of knowing him. May we carry forward the lessons he taught us, the kindness he showed, and the memories he leaves behind.

Daniel, you are deeply missed. Your family, your friends, and everyone whose life you touched will forever hold you in our hearts. Rest in peace.

A memorial service will be held on March 2 at 2pm at Langley Hill Friends Meeting (6410 Old Georgetown Pike, McLean, VA 22101).
